United to operate a “advanced biofuel” flight today

United Airlines (Chicago) through Continental Airlines will operate a Houston-Chicago O’Hare “advanced biofuel” flight today with a Boeing 737-800.

Continental Airlines today is operating the first U.S. commercial flight powered by advanced biofuels. Flight CO 1403, a Boeing 737-800, departs Houston’s Bush Intercontinental Airport at 10:30 a.m. (1030) bound for Chicago O’Hare International Airport, making United and Continental the first U.S. airlines to fly passengers using a blend of sustainable, advanced biofuel and traditional petroleum-derived jet fuel supplied by Solazyme.

Solazyme, Inc., (San Francisco) was founded on March 31, 2003, with the mission of utilizing microalgae to create a renewable source of energy and transportation fuels.
