Delta Air Lines’ (Atlanta) McDonnell Douglas MD-88 operating flight DL 1393 (Delta Shuttle) late on September 29 from Boston to New York (LGA) hit a large bird while on approach to LGA, damaging the nose cone. The aircraft landed safely. There were no injuries.
Meanwhile US Airways pilot and hero Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger announced he will be going back to flying for the carrier and will also serve in a new role as a safety officer. Sully’s A320 was brought down by a flock of Canada Geese while departing from LGA.
