Volotea to open a new base in Florence, 7th in Italy, 19th in Europe

Volotea has announced that it has chosen the Florentine capital as its seventh Italian base and nineteenth in Europe.

In 2023 the company will allocate 1 Airbus A319 to the Vespucci and will launch 9 new routes to Palermo, Catania, Bari, Cagliari, Bilbao, Toulouse and 3 new destinations that will be revealed only in the coming weeks.

These new routes are added to those for Bordeaux and Nantes (another new 2023 recently announced), for a total of 11 routes.

The new base will open in April 2023.

From 2023, Florence will join the carrier’s already operational bases in Italy (Venice, Verona, Palermo, Naples, Cagliari and Olbia), France (Bordeaux, Lille, Lyon, Lourdes, Marseille, Nantes, Strasbourg and Toulouse), Spain (Asturias and Bilbao), Greece (Athens) and Germany (Hamburg).

Routes from Florence (Firenze):

Florence-Bari 07-Apr-23 2 times a week from April (Monday and Friday) and 3 times a week during the summer (Monday, Wednesday and Friday)
Florence-Cagliari 06-Apr-23 2 times a week from April (Monday and Friday) and 4 times a week during the summer (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday)

In other news, Volotea has been operating Airbus’ internal shuttle service since mid-September with 34% SAF (mix charged in Hamburg for the round trip). Volotea was chosen in 2019 by the European manufacturer to operate the shuttle between its sites in Toulouse and Hamburg, from Monday to Friday. In line with its commitment to support the use and accessibility of SAF, Volotea is now introducing, in collaboration with Airbus, a high percentage of sustainable fuels to its daily operations from Hamburg.
