Sriwijaya Air’s 737-500 faulty throttle reported 65 times before fatal crash

The final Indonesian accident report for the January 9, 2021 crash of Sriwijaya Air Boeing 737-524 PK-CLC in the Java Sea blamed the crew and the company.

The flight crew failed to monitor the faulty automatic engine throttle system after takeoff from Jakarta. All 62 passengers and crew members died in the crash.

The faulty autothrottle system that controls engine power had been reported 65 times by crews in the maintenance logs since 2013. The company failed to correct the problem.
