A perennial “crowd favorite,” especially in the United Kingdom, are Court Line’s two Lockheed L-1011 TriStars. G-BAAA “Halcyon Days” is seen here taxiing at London-Gatwick sometime in 1973 or 1974. Sadly, these were the only two years G-BAAA and her sistership “G-BAAB” (also known as “Halcyon Breeze”) operated before the worldwide slowdown in world air travel in the aftermath of the 1973/74 OPEC Oil Embargo put Court under for good. For some reason the multi-shaded pink hues of -BAAA seem to show up in the few good color photographs of these ships quite a bit more often than -the yellow/oranges of -BAAB. That is what makes this gorgeously well-lit shot of “Halcyon Days” so special, in my opinion. Court was also famously known for its single-class, nine-across seating, L-1011 charters, making the 400-passenger TriStars the most densely configured of this era. As for the gloriously colorful liveries the only thing that came close on an L-1011 were found in the mid-1970’s livery of Pacific Southwest Airline’s (PSA’s) two examples, which wore multiple pinks and reds with a white crown.

airBaltic Begins Naming Aircraft After Cities in the Baltic States
Riga. Latvian airline airBaltic has begun naming its Airbus A220-300 fleet after cities across the Baltics, based on the results of a public voting contest held in August 2024. The first three aircraft, featuring special Baltic State liveries, now proudly bear the names of the capital cities โ Riga for the Latvian flag livery, Tallinn for the Estonian flag livery, and Vilnius for the Lithuanian flag livery โ with registration numbers YL-ABN, YL-CSJ, and YL-CSK, respectively.
The naming contest, held last year to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the Baltic Way, invited the public to vote for their most beloved cities across Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania. A total of over one million votes were cast during the voting period from August 5 to August 22, resulting in a shortlist of 48 cities โ 16 from each Baltic country โ reflecting the airlineโs fleet size at the time of the contest. This initiative celebrates the unity and cultural heritage of the Baltic States. This symbolic meaning also strengthens the recognition of the Baltic States region worldwide and encourages tourism, making these cities attractive to both local and international travellers.
Elฤซna Prฤve, VP Marketing at airBaltic: “We are grateful to everyone who participated in this contest and showed support for their favourite cities. By naming airBaltic aircraft after Baltic cities, we not only inspire travellers to explore these places but also promote their international recognition. We are proud to be a part of the region’s growth and strengthen its connectivity with the rest of the world.”
The airline plans to gradually name the remaining 45 of its 48 Airbus A220-300 aircraft after the most beloved Baltic cities, as determined by a public vote, with the names announced in random order. More information about the contest and its results is available here: https://vote.airbaltic.com.
Riga, the capital of Latvia, is known for its distinctive Art Nouveau architecture, well-preserved historic center, and active cultural scene. Tallinn, the capital of Estonia uniquely blends medieval heritage with modern innovation, featuring a UNESCO-listed Old Town and a thriving digital economy. Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, stands out for its baroque architecture, open public spaces, and a cultural atmosphere shaped by diverse historical influences. Together, these cities embody the unity, diversity, and forward-looking spirit of the Baltics.
airBaltic operates nearly 130 routes from Riga, Tallinn, Vilnius, Tampere and, seasonally, Gran Canaria, offering connections to a wide range of destinations in the airline’s route network in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Caucasus region. Air Canada Redefines How Members Earn Aeroplan Points and Achieve Aeroplan Elite Status
Members will earn points based on dollars spent, versus distance flown
New structure designed to better reward the programโs most engaged members
Frequent bonus points offers and promotions will help members earn rewards faster
MONTRรAL, August 6, 2025 – Effective for travel on or after January 1, 2026, Aeroplan members will earn points on eligible Air Canada flights based on dollars spent rather than the distance they travel. On the same date, Air Canada will introduce Status Qualifying Credits (SQC), a new single path for achieving Aeroplan Elite status, that will change how members qualify for status based on their activities from January 1, 2026 onward.
Members will be able to get SQC through eligible flight purchases, Aeroplan credit card spending, and activity with the programโs travel and everyday partners.
These changes are designed to better recognize Aeroplan members who spend more and travel more with Air Canada and who actively engage across the program, while keeping Aeroplan Elite status truly special.
โAeroplan has grown into one of the most rewarding and widely used travel loyalty programs,โ said Scott OโLeary, Vice President, Loyalty & Product at Air Canada. โOur most engaged members do more than just fly with usโthey earn with our partners, choose flexible fares, and carry Aeroplan credit cards. These changes help us better recognize their loyalty and keep improving the experience.โ
Aeroplan Elite status qualification is unchanged for the remainder of 2025, including how members achieve status for 2026.
Whatโs changing in 2026
Hereโs how members will earn Aeroplan points and qualify for Aeroplan Elite Status as of January 1, 2026:
Earn points based on spend. Members will earn a minimum of 1 Aeroplan point per $1 spent on an eligible Air Canada flight (base fare and carrier surcharges, excluding applicable taxes, fees, and third-party charges). For example: Spend $427 on base fare and carrier surcharges (excluding applicable taxes, fees and third-party charges), get 427 Aeroplan points.
Frequent bonus points offers, enabling members to reach rewards faster.
Aeroplan Elite status Members earn more on Air Canada flights. Depending on their status level at time of travel, Aeroplan Elite status members will earn 2x to 6x Aeroplan points per dollar spent on eligible Air Canada flights.
Qualify for Elite Status with SQC. Get up to 4 SQC per dollar on eligible Air Canada fares (base fare and carrier surcharges, excluding applicable taxes, fees, and third-party charges) based on fare type, plus up to 25,000 SQC through eligible Aeroplan credit card spending and get an additional 25,000 SQC via eligible partner activity.
Along with the new SQC-based qualification path, Aeroplan Elite status Members will have more ways to unlock benefits and get more from their status:
Core Benefits continue to be offered based on status, including complimentary checked bags, priority airport services, and more.
Milestone Benefits unlocked every 10,000 SQC, offering perks like bonus SQC, Status Passes and more.
10% Head Start. Beginning in 2027, primary Aeroplan premium credit cardholders who qualify for Aeroplan Elite status can receive a 10% SQC bonus based on their previous yearโs earnings.
While each memberโs activity will determine their new status level, we expect many of our current Aeroplan Elite status Members will benefit from the expanded ways to accumulate SQC. These changes are designed to better recognize and reward Aeroplanโs most loyal and engaged members.
For more information about these changes, visit aircanada.com/acearn2026 and aircanada.com/elite2026.
