Aeronautical Engineers, Inc. (AEI) has announced the company has redelivered the first Boeing 737-800SF Freighter Conversion to Nigeria- based Allied Air. In March of this year, Allied Air entered into an agreement with AEI to provide the company with two Boeing 737-800SF Freighter Conversions with an option for two additional conversions. The delivered freighter (MSN 36846) is the youngest 737-800 in the world converted to date. Additionally, Allied Air is the first airline in Africa to own and operate a Boeing 737-800SF on the continent.
Allied Air has recently used its existing fleet of freighter aircraft to assist the Nigerian government in distributing much needed medical supplies to help combat the COVID-19 pandemic – helping to save countless lives in the nation. Supplies transported include masks, PPE, and ventilators. Allied Air has provided this service to the Nigerian government free of charge.
All modification touch labor was completed by the authorized AEI Conversion Center, Commercial Jet in Miami, Florida. Commercial Jet’s Dothan, Alabama facility conducted the aircraft painting at their state-of-the-art North American Exterior Refurbishment facility.
The AEI converted Boeing 737-800SF freighter offers a main deck payload of up to 52,700 lbs. (23,904 kg) and incorporates eleven full height 88” x 125” container positions, plus an additional position for an AEP/AEH. The conversion also incorporates new floor beams aft of the wing box, a large 86” x 137” Main Cargo Door with a single vent door system, and a flexible Ancra Cargo Loading System. Additionally, the AEI B737-800SF includes a rigid 9g barrier, five supernumerary seats, a galley and full lavatory.
Allied Air Cargo (Lagos) cargo flight from Lagos to Accra, Ghana overran the runway on landing at Accra yesterday (June 2). Flight 3, on landing at Kotoka International Airport, ran off the runway end through the security fence and across a main road, hitting a small bus with 10 people, killing all on board. The four crew members suffered minor injuries. The flight was operated by Boeing 727-221 (F) 5N-BJN (msn 22540). The airframe was originally delivered to Pan Am as N368PA “Clipper Goodwill” on May 26, 1982.

World Airways (Atlanta) has extended its cooperation with Allied Air Cargo for the lease of two McDonnell Douglas MD-11F aircraft beginning in January 2012 for service between Europe and various cities in Africa. World Airways, a subsidiary of Global Aviation Holdings Inc., began operating aircraft for Allied Air in October 2008.
Allied Air is a Nigerian all-cargo airline operating four Boeing 727 freighters in addition to the two MD-11 freighters leased from World Airways. Allied works closely with its worldwide sales agent, ANA Aviation Services, to provide scheduled flights and ad hoc charter services. Allied Air carries more than 400 tons per week of fresh flowers and vegetables from both Kenya and Uganda to the major European markets in Holland and the United Kingdom.

World Airways (Atlanta) has extended its contract with Allied Air Cargo (Lagos) to operate a McDonnell Douglas MD-11F freighter now through December 2011. The MD-11F operates on a cargo route from Ostend to Lagos onward to Nairobi and then return for Allied. Allied currently operates four Boeing 727-200F freighters. The contract started on October 1, 2008.
