Fly Baghdad arrives in Ankara, Turkey

Fly Baghdad’s first flight from Baghdad to Ankara touched down on January 8, 2018, marking the start of a new era of connectivity between the capital cities of Iraq and Turkey.

The inaugural flight took off from Baghdad International Airport at 9:00 am, and a Fly Baghdad airplane was welcomed at Esenboga International Airport a well-organized reception inside the airport included a beautiful Fly Baghdad Cake cutting ceremony which was attendant by the CEO of the airport, CEO of the ground handling company, the CEO and staff of the Turkish GSA, Merkur, and representative of the travel and tourism companies in Turkey, The Fly Baghdad delegation included the CEO of the company, head of ground operation and his staff, aviation cadres and Crew in addition to the delegation of the Iraqi embassy in Turkey who arrived early to be part of the celebration, Both of the sectors were full of passengers.


The Chief Executive Officer of Fly Baghdad said “The Company is committed to expanding and opening new destinations in Turkey, Ankara is an important addition to Fly Baghdad operations in Turkey, which are flying to Istanbul and Ankara. It will promote tourism and trade cooperation between the two countries and provide direct and convenient travel options for the Iraqi Traveller”.

Fly Baghdad fleet consists of two Boeing 737-700 aircraft (below), capacity of 149 seats and one Bombardier CRJ200 with a capacity of 50 seats.

Fly Baghdad uses its fleet to fly to Erbil and Sulaymaniyah in northern Iraq, Istanbul in Turkey and Amman, the Jordanian capital, as well as the new destination of Ankara.

The company plans to expand its fleet to include about 8 aircraft by 2020.

Fly Baghdad touches down in Beirut, Lebanon

Fly Baghdad, Iraq’s first economic carrier, launched its first new nonstop flights between Baghdad and Beirut on December 21, 2017, with two regular flights per week, gradually increasing to daily flights in 2018.

The inaugural flight took off from Baghdad International Airport at 7:45 am, and was greeted at Rafic Hariri International Airport with the traditional water cannon salute (below).

The flight was accompanied by the airline Chief executive officer Mr. Ali Al-Hamdany, Head of sales, and representatives of travel and tourism companies, and it was welcomed in Rafic Hariri International Airport by the Head of Lebanese civil aviation Eng. Mohamed Shehabulddin, the head of Air transport department Eng Carl Rizk, the President of the research and study department Dr. Angel Awaad, and the president of New plaza tours Mr. Fawaz Fawaz, and representatives from the press and media.

Ali Al-Hamdany, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Fly Baghdad, said: “The airline follows the low cost model that provides world class services at affordable prices.” The company will initially operate two flights a week to Beirut, to become three flights next month, then daily flights beginning of the new summer season. ” Al-Hamdany continued “The city of Beirut represents an important destination for the Iraqi traveler, both in terms of work, tourism and for residence, which makes it desirable destination for the Iraqi traveler”

“The Directorate at Rafic Hariri International Airport is happy to have a new service between Beirut and Baghdad through Fly Baghdad,” said the Director General of civil aviation, Eng. Shahabuddin. “We know that this will further strengthen the relationship between the Iraqi and Lebanese peoples, and tourism on various aspects between the two countries.”
“We have promised that the Iraqi brothers will come to Lebanon for tourism, especially that Lebanon opens its heart to all Arab peoples without exception,” he said. ” And this will strengthens the revenue of the Lebanese treasury and strengthens confidence in Rafik Hariri International Airport.

Al-Hamdany, in a previous interview with Reuters during the Dubai aviation conference last month talked about plans to expand the Fly Baghdad network to include Europe and India next year.

Fly Baghdad Airlines launches flights to Amman

Fly Baghdad, the first low cost airlines in Iraq, launched its first flights to the Jordanian capital of Amman on November 2, 2017.

Fly Baghdad flight took off from Baghdad International Airport heading to Amman, and was welcomed by water cannon salute in Queen Alia International Airport. This was followed by well-organized reception in the terminal and cake cutting ceremony. The reception was attended by the airport management and staff, the Head and management of the ground handling company, the General sales agent, Petra Travel & Tourism, and representatives of the travel and tourism companies in Jordan. From Fly Baghdad side, it was attended by the Chairman, the CEO, the Sales Manager, and the flight crew.

Fly Baghdad their Amman route with four flights a week, to become daily flights within two months.

Fly Baghdad launches its first international route

Fly Baghdad launched their first international flight on October 28, 2017 to officially enter the regional air travel market as a scheduled airline operating the low-cost model.

The pictured Boeing 737-700 took off from Baghdad International Airport, heading to Sabiha Gokcen International Airport in Istanbul – Turkey.

The flight was welcomed by the traditional water canon salute (above) by the well-organized reception inside the airport which was attended by the CEO of the airport, CEO of the ground handling company, the CEO and staff of the Turkish GSA, Merkur, and representative of the travel and tourism companies in Turkey. Fly Baghdad delegation included the CEO, Sales manager, and Flight and cabin crew. And the flight was fully sold from both ways.

Fly Baghdad started their Istanbul route with three flights a week. The route will become a daily flight within two months from the start of operation. Passengers can book their tickets by visiting the airlines website www.flybaghdad.net in addition to booking through the call center and travel agents in Iraq and the destination countries.

Fly Baghdad network is expected to grow in the next three months to include destinations like Amman, Beirut, Dubai, Cairo, in addition to airports in Europe and the Indian subcontinent.

Fly Baghdad, under new leadership, adds its first Boeing 737-700

Fly Baghdad, a growing national carrier from Iraq, based at Baghdad Airport, went through a change of ownership in September 2016. This was followed by the appointment of a new CEO, Mr Ali Al-Hamdany.

According to the CEO;

“The new management triggered a complete restructure action started almost immediately, and touched almost everything related to the old setup of the airline, from the logo to the business model and future plans.

Fly Baghdad also went through cost reduction activities that has lower operating costs by about 60% in comparison to the previous year. The implementation of cost reduction actions included:

  • Reviewing the existing contracts and terminate those that are not negotiable or redundant.
  • Engage new world class suppliers.
  • Optimizing the organization chart to align staff with the new strategy and business objectives.
  • Build and utilize in-house capabilities to enable the Fly Baghdad to complete operational and engineering regular activities that was previously sub-contracted.”

Fly Baghdad currently will pass two new and impressive milestones this month, October 2017: The company received its second owned aircraft type, a Boeing 737-700, and starting international routes.

Fly Baghdad takes delivery of its first aircraft

Fly Baghdad (Baghdad) is a new airline in Iraq. The new airline has acquired its first aircraft, the pictured ex-Air Nostrum Bombardier CRJ200 (CL-600-2B19) YI-BAH (msn 7984, ex EC-JCO).

The company is planning to start operations soon from Baghdad to Basra, Erbil, Najaf and Sulimani.

Update:

After suspending operations in December 2016, the company reorganized and relaunched operations on February 14, 2017. In addition, a new livery and logo was adopted in 2017 including on the Boeing 737 aircraft:
