Zambezi Airlines resumes operations

Zambezi Airlines (Lusaka) resumed regional operations on June 17 by wet-leasing two Bombardier CRJ200 regional jets from SA Express (South African Express) (Johannesburg). The route structure is rather limited (see below) for now as the flag carrier hopes to make a full recovery before expanding. Previously the airline ceased operations on October 31, 2011.

Zambezi Airlines suspends all operations after its AOC is revoked

Zambezi Airlines (Lusaka) suspended all operations today after its AOC was revoked by the Zambia government this past weekend.

The airline is named after the Zambezi (also spelled Zambesi)  River, the fourth-longest river in Africa, and the largest flowing into the Indian Ocean from Africa.

Zambezi Airlines stops flying for Air Zimbabwe

Zambezi Airlines (Lusaka) yesterday (May 18) stopped flying for Air Zimbabwe (Harare) leaving that airline grounded according to this article by the Defence Web.

Previously the government of Zimbabwe told the flag carrier to stop flying their older Boeing 737-200s. Air Zimbabwe hired Zambezi to fly the regional routes for Air Zimbabwe.

Air Zimbabwe (Harare) is considering a new code-sharing partnership partnership with Zambezi Airlines (Lusaka).

Zambezi Airlines to fly internationally

Zambezi Airlines (Lusaka) is leasing two Boeing 737-500s from GECAS in order to start daily international flights on May 12 from Lusaka to Johannesburg. The new privately-owned airline will also commence thrice-weekly service on the same day from Ndola to Johannesburg and Livingston-Johannesburg (three times weekly) on June 26. The new airline started operations in July 2008 with Embraer EMB-120 Brasilias operating domestic flights in Zambia from Lusaka to Ndola, Livingston, Kitwe and Chipata.
