Southern Star Airlines (Juba) is a new airline in newly independent South Sudan. The new airline has taken delivery of its first aircraft, a Bombardier DHC-8-100, via ALS of Kenya. The new company launched domestic operations this month from Juba to Awell, Malakal, Rumbek and Wau.

An Embraer ERJ 145 is expected to be the second aircraft delivered when international operations are expected to be launched.

South Sudan became an independent country on July 9, 2011 after voting to break away from Sudan with international support. South Sudan became a United Nations member state on July 14, 2011. It joined the African Union on July 28, 2011.
