Airline Color Scheme - Introduced 2008

SmartLynx Airlines has made this announcement:

This week, Latvia’s oldest operating carrier SmartLynx Airlines marks its 30th anniversary. In the summer season, the airline plans to have about 60 airplanes, becoming the largest air fleet operator in the Baltic states.

Presently, SmartLynx Airlines operates 33 airplanes, in April three more will be delivered, and the other 22 will be delivered gradually by the end of the summer season. The company’s fleet consists of Airbus A320 (25), A330-300 (6), and A321 (4) aircraft. There are two other Airbus A321F air cargo jets, and in April the company will receive the first Boeing 737 MAX.

“We expect that in relation to the fleet size, this year we will be ahead the world’s largest names in aviation, but we will be able to speak about it in more detail when we have received all the aircraft. The experience obtained during the beginning of the Covid-19 crisis helped us to continue sustainable development so that we could mark our 30th anniversary with a record-high number of airplanes. As our fleet is expanding, the number of our employees is also increasing – we have already 300 employees in our Riga office, and by the end of the year we plan to fill in 40 more vacancies. We hope to see our next anniversary as the largest Latvian employer in aviation,” said SmartLynx Airlines head Zygimantas Surintas.

Developing new business directions during crisis

The pandemic is called the most severe crisis in the aviation history, however, despite the sudden strike, SmartLynx Airlines during this time has not only managed to maintain its operations, but also develop new business directions. The air cargo fleet has been expanded significantly, and air cargo transportation will be one of the company’s main strategic directions also in the future. The airline announced on opening fleet service centre SmartLynx Technik in Riga and Tallinn. Meanwhile, two geographically significant players – Royal Air Maroc in Morocco and Air Peace in Nigeria were added to the client portfolio for full-service ACMI aircraft lease services.

The company’s subsidiary SmartLynx Malta announced on a significant step, signing a partnership agreement with DHL Express, providing that the two recently refurbished cargo jets Airbus A321-200 will join the DHL European air fleet. The company during the pandemic has managed to keep and maintain cooperation with the largest partners from the pre-pandemic period, such as EasyJet, TUI and Jet2.

Development plans not only in Europe, but also in other continents

As the company’s head says, the main strategic direction of SmartLynx Airlines will be to strengthen the airline’s leading position as a trustworthy passenger and air cargo carrier not only in Europe, but also in other continents.

At present, the main business share of SmartLynx Airlines is organization of passenger charter flights to different resorts and special destinations. A large business share is related with leasing the company’s jets, services and staff to those airlines who wish to expand their range of services.

SmartLynx Airlines long-term clients include easyJet, TUI, Jet2. Recently such companies as DHL, Qatar Airways, Air Peace, Royal Air Morocco, and others have joined the client portfolio.

The move also demonstrates the company’s commitment to expanding its client portfolio, in support of the growing demand for safe travel. This commitment to safety has been underlined by SmartLynx’s signing of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Covid Charter.

The Chief Operating Officer, Air Peace, Oluwatoyin Olajide, stated: “We are happy to have entered into the 6-month damp-lease agreement with SmartLynx and we believe this will open up more layers of business relationship with them. SmartLynx introduces the first freighter registered in Malta

SmartLynx has made this announcement:

As the latest edition to its growing fleet, SmartLynx is proud to announce the introduction of the first freighter aircraft registered in Malta. The A321F, with the registration 9H-CGA, is the first aircraft of its type to be registered in Malta and is also the first of its type to be introduced to the SmartLynx line-up of A320 and A321 aircraft.

SmartLynx – a family member of the Avia Solutions Group, the largest aviation and aerospace business group operating in Central and Eastern Europe – is also proud of the aircraft’s new livery, specially commissioned to feature both SmartLynx and DHL branding. The new freighter will fly to Leipzig where it will commence operations in support of the Express Division of Deutsche Post’s DHL group. The partnership will further enhance DHL’s unit Co2 emissions by introducing the most fuel-efficient narrow-body aircraft in its class.

Compared to similar class freighter models, the A321F is regarded as a better option for the environment and lowering Co2 emissions, with a 20% reduction in fuel burn and its enhanced performance in range, payload, and volume capacity. The aircraft type is also acknowledged as being one of the most technologically advanced narrow-body fleet types in its class.

Through its investment in the introduction of the A321F to the fleet, SmartLynx Malta is visibly demonstrating its commitment to sustainability and a forward-facing focus on a cleaner, more environmentally aware future for air freight transportation.

The introduction and Maltese registration of the new aircraft are regarded as setting new standards for SmartLynx and their progression in the freighter market. The SmartLynx A321F is perfectly placed to meet the ever-increasing demand for express global cargo transportation and comes as confirmation and recognition of the aviation company’s position in support of the freight movement sector. Among SmartLynx’s other main strengths that allow them to bolster their progressive response to the changing face of freight transportation are adaptability, swift response times, and a commitment to safety.

In addition to this quantum leap for SmartLynx Malta, plans are afoot for the introduction of additional A321Fs along with a future target of becoming one of the largest narrow-body cargo freight carriers.

SmartLynx Airlines Malta to add 5 Airbus A330 freighters

SmartLynx Airlines Malta has announced an important addition to its Airbus fleet. Currently operated Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft, the fleet will be joined by Airbus A330 aircraft type with a goal to become leaders of long-haul market.

5 Airbus A330 aircraft will be modified to Zero LOPA by removing passenger seats and preparing aircraft for cargo flights. The planes are planned to be added to SmartLynx Airlines’ fleet during May and June.

According to IATA, in April 2021, air cargo demand reached an all-time high and was up 9% compared to pre-COVID levels (Feb 2019). The increased market demand for long-haul cargo operations prompted SmartLynx Airlines to grow their fleet and introduce the modified aircraft, able to transport cargo shipments, including vaccines and medical supplies, on long-haul flights.

The global aircraft leasing platform CDB Aviation will be leasing out several Airbus A330 aircraft to SmartLynx Airlines.

The updated A330 aircraft will carry cargo for existing and future clients to and from Asia, USA and Europe, with a volume capacity of 260 m3 and a maximum cargo weight of 50,000 kg.

Earlier this year, SmartLynx Airlines has already showed its flexibility and forward-thinking attitude, making the necessary Zero LOPA modifications on two of the fleet’s A321 units to meet the growing demand for cargo transportation and became one of the first carriers to introduce A321F to operations.

SmartLynx Malta will support the Express Division of Deutsche Post DHL Group with two Airbus A321-200 freighter aircraft

DHL Express, the world’s leading express service provider, and SmartLynx Malta announce the signing of a new partnership agreement for the introduction of two newly converted Airbus A321-200 freighters joining DHL’s European air fleet.  The new technically advanced narrow-body fleet type is adding capacity to meet the increasing demand for express cargo transportation worldwide combined with further improving DHL’s unit Co2 emissions by introducing the most fuel efficient narrow-body aircraft in its class.

SmartLynx is a family member of Avia Solutions Group, the  largest aerospace business group from Central & Eastern Europe, and has extensive experience operating the A321 family of aircraft. This agreement sets a new hallmark as SmartLynx’s Malta subsidiary enters into the freighter market.

Smartlynx Malta is planning to add two additional A321Fs during 2021 and up to four units during 2022, with a business target of becoming one of the largest narrow-body cargo freight carriers within the next three years.
