American to expand Washington Reagan National operations next spring

American Airlines is planning to expand operations at Washington’s Reagan National Airport (DCA) with three new American Eagle routes. Republic Airlines will add daily DCA – Little Rock E175 jet service on April 3, 2018 per Airline Route.

Additionally PSA Airlines will add the DCA – Montgomery (CRJ200) route on June 7, 2018 and daily DCA – Tallahassee (CRJ900) service on February 15, 2018.

AA is also converting weekend service from DCA to both Destin/Fort Walton Beach and Myrtle Beach to daily service for the summer 2018 season.

American’s Envoy Air, Piedmont and PSA offer a $15,000 signing bonus for new pilots

The three regional airline subsidiaries of American Airlines Group are all offering a $15,000 signing bonus for new pilots:

Envoy Air issued this statement:

Envoy Air Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of American Airlines Group (AAL), now offers new hire pilots a $15,000 bonus when they join the company.

Through its industry-leading flow-through agreement with American Airlines, Envoy offers pilots a guaranteed path to American Airlines without having to interview again – or compete with the thousands of pilots who apply to American every year. Envoy pilots currently make up half of every American Airlines new hire class – in fact, nearly two thirds of American new hires since 2010 started their career at Envoy.

Piedmont Airlines (2nd) issued this statement:

Piedmont Airlines, a wholly owned subsidiary of the American Airlines Group Inc. (AAL), will pay a $15,000 signing bonus to all new hire pilots, effective immediately. Piedmont employees will also collect $5,000 for every pilot they refer to the airlines.

Pilots who come to Piedmont enjoy a generous benefits package including excellent health care and 401(k) with company match. Piedmont provides hotel rooms for commuting pilots and industry-leading flight benefits on American Airlines.

Piedmont employees can earn some cash, too. Employees who refer a pilot to the company will collect $5,000 if their pilot is hired, passes training and stays with the company for six months. “It’s a great opportunity for all of our employees to participate in our recruiting efforts,” Hogg said. “Any employee can recommend a friend or family member pilot through our Human Resources department and get rewarded with a bonus for doing so. It now means we have 7,000 people recruiting for Piedmont Airlines, and that’s exciting.”

Piedmont plans to hire more than 200 pilots in 2016. Piedmont will hold pilot information sessions and on-site interviews at Philadelphia International Airport on June 17; in Newark, N.J. (Newark Airport Marriott) on June 23 and in New York City (JFK Courtyard Marriott) on June 24. Details are available online at Piedmont-airlines.com.

PSA Airlines (2nd) issued this statement:

PSA Airlines has announced an important enhancement to its pilot recruiting platform by rolling out a $15,000 sign-on bonus for all new-hire pilots. This valuable improvement enriches PSA’s existing top-notch employment opportunities which already offer the highest quality of life in the regional industry and the only true seniority-based pilot flow through program to American Airlines (AAL).

In addition to today’s expanded pilot bonus program, PSA will also be enhancing the value of its employee referral program for pilots by increasing the payout from $1,000 to $5,000 for eligible participants and aims to further reward current employees as ambassadors for the company to attract the best and brightest future aviators. Employee referrals are an important part of pilot recruitment and with this increase, PSA will be materially compensating its workforce for helping identify and onboard future pilot colleagues.

The long-term stability, unmatched career opportunities and quality of life at PSA is something few regional carriers can match. American Airlines Group to transfer all 47 Bombardier CRJ700s from Envoy Air to PSA Airlines

American Airlines Group (Dallas/Fort Worth) has decided to transfer all 47 Bombardier CRJ700s (and the associated flying) from subsidiary Envoy Air (formerly American Eagle Airlines) (Dallas/Fort Worth) to subsidiary PSA Airlines (2nd) (Dayton). This will leave Envoy Air as an Embraer ERJ operator. AAG is likely to continue phasing out its smaller regional jets. The pilots of Envoy Air and the AAG failed to agreed on a new contract. Will Envoy Air follow the same path as Delta’s Comair?

Bill Sprague, representing the Envoy Air pilots, issued this statement to its member pilots:

The MEC is outraged by this announcement by AAG that all 47 of our CRJ700 aircraft will be transferred to PSA. This action obviously and significantly punishes Envoy pilots for refusing to accept the additional concessions demanded by the company in exchange for larger aircraft. We are not aware of any plans to bring additional aircraft to Envoy. Therefore the company’s recent commitment to keep 200 aircraft on the property for the foreseeable future is no more credible than their promise to re-fleet Envoy as part of the bankruptcy contract.

We are evaluating the details related to the transfer of these aircraft to PSA. This action will eliminate the highest levels of compensation available under our contract.

Once again, we find ourselves wondering what the future holds for our carrier. The company has already announced their intention to park the remaining Embraer 140s. Barring any additional aircraft, we will only be operating a fleet of 118 Embraer 145s. This would require roughly 48% fewer pilots than are active on our seniority list today. We will provide you the company’s draw down schedule when they provide it to us.

The company has indicated that moving these aircraft to PSA is necessary to more efficiently focus operations on a single aircraft type. In reality, management’s decision clearly exploits the lower costs afforded by the 10 year agreement ratified last fall by our colleagues at PSA.

We understand this is a very stressful time for all of us. Many of you have inquired about the status of our previously advertised career progression resources. The MEC will receive a briefing next Tuesday, the 9th, from ALPA National regarding the rollout of these resources, and details will be communicated as we get them.

PSA Airlines to introduce the new Bombardier CRJ900 on July 31

PSA Airlines (2nd) (American Eagle and US Airways Express) (subsidiary of American Airlines Group) will introduce its new Bombardier CRJ900s (three delivered so far) on July 31 per ch-aviation.

Although painted in American Eagle colors (above), the CRJ900s will initially be operated for US Airways mainly from the Charlotte and Philadelphia hubs.

Bombardier delivers the first CRJ900 to American for PSA Airlines

Bombardier Aerospace (Montreal-Mirabel) has delivered the first of 30 enhanced CRJ900 NextGen aircraft to American Airlines Group Inc. (Dallas/Fort Worth). The aircraft will be operated by American Airlines Group wholly owned subsidiary PSA Airlines, Inc. (Dayton) under the American Eagle brand. The purchase agreement for the aircraft, which was announced in December 2013, also included options on an additional 40 CRJ900 NextGen aircraft.

The pictured Bombardier CRJ900 (CL-600-2D24) N547NN (msn 15317) was delivered on June 5.

PSA Airlines currently operates as an US Airways Express operator.

Previously the aircraft was unveiled to American Airlines employees and PSA Airlines employees at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and in Dayton, Ohio.

American Airlines is the first customer to take delivery of the enhanced CRJ900 NextGen regional jet, which provides up to 5.5 per cent fuel burn reduction over earlier-generation CRJ900 aircraft.

The delivery ceremony at Bombardier’s Mirabel, Québec, facility was attended by senior executives and employees of American Airlines, PSA Airlines, Bombardier and major suppliers to the CRJ Series regional jet program.

As of March 31, 2014, Bombardier had recorded firm orders for 1,817 CRJ Series aircraft, including 343 CRJ900 and CRJ900 NextGen aircraft. Worldwide, CRJ Series aircraft are in service with more than 60 airlines and more than 30 customers operate corporate variants of the aircraft. The aircraft are operating in more than 50 countries on six continents, and on average, a CRJ aircraft takes off every 10 seconds somewhere in the world. CRJ Series aircraft have transported more than 1.4 billion passengers and have logged more than 39 million flight hours and over 32 million takeoffs and landings.

American Airlines and PSA Airlines show off the first American Eagle Bombardier CRJ900 at DFW

American Airlines (Dallas/Fort Worth) and PSA Airlines (2nd) (US Airways Express and American Eagle) (Dayton) yesterday (May 20) showed off the first Bombardier CRJ900 (CL-600-2D24) to the media at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). The aircraft was flown by Bombardier.

The aircraft is not officially handed over to American and PSA and currently carries the temporary registration of C-GWGQ (msn 15317). This aircraft is the first of 30 CRJ900s that will be operated for American Eagle. The first delivery will be in June. The routes have not yet been specified.

The aircraft will be on display at the Dayton base today.

Bombardier Aerospace unveiled the first of 30 enhanced CRJ900 NextGen aircraft ordered by American Airlines Group Inc. in December 2013. The purchase agreement also included options on an additional 40 CRJ900 NextGen aircraft. The aircraft was unveiled to American Airlines employees and the media during a celebratory event on May 20 at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, and will be showcased  in Dayton, Ohio the following day, to team members at American Airlines Group’s ’ wholly owned subsidiary, PSA Airlines, Inc. PSA Airlines will operate the 30 CRJ900 NextGen aircraft under the American Eagle brand.

American Airlines is the first customer to benefit from the latest enhancements to the CRJ900 NextGen regional jet, which provides up to 5.5 per cent fuel burn reduction over earlier-generation CRJ900 aircraft.

The CRJ900 NextGen aircraft’s advanced technologies include a conic-shaped exhaust nozzle that improves exhaust flow and reduces fuel consumption; various weight-saving initiatives; and a modern six-screen glass cockpit featuring the Rockwell Collins Pro Line IV integrated avionics suite, whose robust open architecture delivers reliable performance with growth capability to meet future communication, navigation, surveillance and air traffic management requirements.

American and US Airways announce eight new domestic routes

American Airlines (Dallas/Fort Worth), together with US Airways (Dallas/Fort Worth and Phoenix), today announced the addition of eight new domestic routes from its hubs in Charlotte, Chicago (O’Hare), Dallas/Fort Worth, Philadelphia and Phoenix, providing customers increased access to the combined airline’s global network. Scheduled to launch this fall, the new routes include service to five destinations in the Midwest, including Bismarck, North Dakota, a new destination for the combined carrier.

Beginning September 3, 2014, customers in Grand Rapids, Michigan (GRR) will have access to twice-daily nonstop regional service to both Charlotte and Philadelphia. These routes will be operated as US Airways Express with Bombardier CRJs.

The remaining routes will launch on October 2 and include service between:

Charlotte and Evansville, Indiana (EVV), operated three times per day as US Airways Express with a Bombardier CRJ

Charlotte and Fort Wayne, Indiana (FWA), operated daily as US Airways Express with a Bombardier CRJ

Chicago (O’Hare) and Bismarck (BIS), operated daily as American Eagle with an Embraer ERJ 145

Dallas/Fort Worth and Bismarck, operated daily as American Eagle with an Embraer ERJ 145

Philadelphia and Fort Wayne, Indiana, operated twice-daily as US Airways Express with a Bombardier CRJ
