Libyan Airlines and Afriqiyah Airways move slowly towards a merger

Libyan Airlines (Tripoli) issued this statement in their website:

Although Libyan Airlines flights to UK remain suspended until further notice, sister company, Afriqiyah Airways (Tripoli) has resumed services between Tripoli and London-Gatwick. Flights presently operate three times per week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

However the Libya Herald reported on March 3 Libyan Airlines was going to restart its European flights operated by Nouvelair.

Both airlines are owned by the Libyan African Aviation Holding Company (LAAHC).

According to Libya Herald, Libyan Airlines flights (operated by Nouvelair) were suspended to Europe by the Libyan Civil Aviation Authority (LYCAA) in late February after a flight lost ATC communications in French airspace.

Both Libyan carriers must use wet-leased aircraft in European Union airspace.

Both companies are moving slowly ahead in their merger process and hope to complete the process by the end of this year. Meanwhile Libyan will concentrate on routes to Africa and is exploring new routes to Asia according to ATW.

Libyan Airlines takes delivery of its first Airbus A330-200

Libyan Airlines (Tripoli), the national carrier of Libya, has taken delivery of its first A330-200 becoming a new operator for the type. The carrier already operates seven Airbus A320 aircraft, with three A330-200 and four A350-800 aircraft on order.

Accommodating a two-class configuration of 24 business and 235 economy seats, the aircraft is  powered by GE CF6-80 engines and will be deployed in the Middle East, around Dubai and Jeddah, as well as on Asian and European trunk routes.

Libyan Airlines resumes partial international operations

Libyan Airlines (Tripoli) resumed service on the Tripoli-Malta route on April 19. The route is operated twice-weekly with Nouvelair operated Airbus A320s.

Airlines from Libya, due to the recent civil war, are banned from flying to the European Union until at least November 22, 2012 due to safety concerns.

Libyan Airlines orders three more Bombardier CRJ900s

Libyan Airlines (Tripoli) through the Libyan African Aviation Holding Company has signed a firm order for three Bombardier CRJ900 NextGen aircraft and has also taken options on an additional three CRJ900 NextGen aircraft. The aircraft will be operated by Libyan Airlines, a subsidiary company of Libyan African Aviation Holding Company.

Libyan Airlines currently operates three CRJ900 and two CRJ900 NextGen aircraft in a two-class configuration with seven business class and 68 economy seats. The airline’s previous orders for CRJ900 and CRJ900 NextGen aircraft were announced on June 14, 2007 and January 3, 2008 respectively.

Libyan Airlines takes delivery of first new Airbus A320

Libyan Airlines (part of the Libyan Aviation Holding Company) (Tripoli) has taken delivery of its first new Airbus A320 aircraft from the Airbus facility in Toulouse, France. The new aircraft, the first of seven on order, will be equipped with On Air in-flight connectivity services.

The aircraft is fitted with several rows of convertible seats that enable the carrier to choose a variety of cabin configurations depending on their requirements. These range from the standard two class configuration with 32 business class seats and 108 economy class seats to an all economy cabin seating 156 passengers.
