airBaltic Launches New Direct Flights Between Gran Canaria and Molde in Norway

Riga. The Latvian airline airBaltic has announced plans to launch direct flights between its seasonal base Gran Canaria (Spain) and Molde (Norway). The route will be operated once weekly from October 29, 2025, to April 8, 2026, on Wednesdays, and the flight time will be approximately 5 hours 40 minutes.

This marks airBalticโ€™s seventh direct route from Gran Canaria, complementing its existing services to Riga (Latvia), Tallinn (Estonia), Vilnius (Lithuania), Billund (Denmark), Oslo Torp (Norway), and recently launched direct service to Ljubljana (Slovenia).

Thomas Alexander Ramdahl, Chief Commercial Officer (Acting) of airBaltic: โ€œWe are excited to continue introducing new routes from our seasonal base in Gran Canaria to various destinations across Europe, further strengthening this regional connectivity. The new flights will offer Norwegian travelers seamless access to this sunny and warm destination during the colder winter months, while passengers from Gran Canaria will have the opportunity to explore Molde โ€“ a city known for its stunning fjord views and vibrant cultural scene. We believe this direct service will generate demand from both ends of the route, contributing positively to inbound tourism of each region.โ€

airBaltic will operate flights between Gran Canaria and Molde with Airbus A220-300 aircraft, offering both Economy and Business Class. Furthermore, the airline also offers free high-speed SpaceX Starlink internet onboard, making it the first European airline to provide this service.

The airBaltic fleet, one of the youngest in Europe, consists of a single aircraft type โ€“ Airbus A220-300. The airline currently operates 50 of such aircraft and aims to double in size. The aircraft offers an excellent flying experience, with benefits for passengers such as wider seats, larger windows, more hand luggage space in the cabin and improved lavatories, as well as better overall performance.

Back in 2005, Barcelona was airBalticโ€™s first destination in Spain. Since then, the airline has continued to expand its network, now offering connectivity from eight Spanish destinations and making Spain one of the airBalticโ€™s key markets. In late 2023, the airline launched a seasonal base in Gran Canaria, providing direct flights to the Baltics and Scandinavia. Operating from Alicante, Barcelona, Gran Canaria, Madrid, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, Tenerife, and Valencia, airBaltic offers Spanish travelers a wide range of options for visiting the Baltics and surrounding regions.

Recently, airBaltic also announced plans to expand its network with three new destinations for the upcoming winter season from late October 2025 to late March 2026, adding new routes from Riga to Faro (Portugal), from Tallinn to Madeira (Portugal), and from Gran Canaria to Ljubljana.

Additionally, the airline will expand its operations in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) by significantly increasing flight frequencies from Riga to daily service, and doubling capacity from Vilnius with four weekly flights between the two cities. airBaltic also plans to enhance connectivity to Amsterdam (the Netherlands) from all three Baltic capitals โ€“ offering 19 weekly flights from Riga and 14 weekly flights from Tallinn and Vilnius each.
