airBaltic Welcomes its 50th Airbus A220-300 in Riga

Riga, February 2025 โ€“ A major milestone was celebrated today at RIX Riga Airport as Latvian national airline, airBaltic, welcomed its 50th Airbus A220-300 aircraft, marked with a stunning, special livery. The event was made even more memorable with a celebratory low-pass flight and was attended by over 200 guests, including airBaltic employees, airport staff, Latvian officials, partners, media representatives, and even Canadaโ€™s Ambassador to Latvia.

A Symbolic Design Celebrating the Baltic States

This 50th Airbus A220-300 (registration No. YL-ABX) features an artistic livery that pays tribute to Latvia and the broader Baltic region. The design, inspired by the Latvian flag, incorporates unique elements representing Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania.

The striking artwork depicts a young woman soaring through the clouds, carrying the Latvian flag. Her long, flowing hair is adorned with a traditional wreath, and several symbolic features are incorporated into the design, such as a ladybug, a swallow, and a stork โ€” all representing the region’s rich heritage and natural beauty.

A Milestone for airBalticโ€™s Growth

Martin Gauss, President and CEO of airBaltic, reflected on the companyโ€™s progress:
โ€œEight years ago, we became the global launch operator of the Airbus A220-300 โ€“ an aircraft that has transformed our operations. Today, as we welcome our 50th Airbus A220-300, it marks a major milestone, completing our initial order and bringing us halfway toward our goal of a single-type fleet of 100 aircraft by 2030. As we continue to grow, we remain committed to innovation, efficiency, and strengthening our position as the leading Baltic carrier.โ€

He also expressed pride in the airlineโ€™s connection to Riga:
โ€œWe are proud to celebrate this occasion at RIX Riga Airport โ€“ our home base and the gateway connecting the Baltics to the world. airBaltic is more than an airline; it is a symbol of Baltic aviation, known and appreciated globally. With this heritage in mind, our newest aircraft proudly showcases a livery reflecting the beauty and spirit of all three Baltic nations.โ€

Celebrating Latvian Ambition and Connectivity

Kaspars Briลกkens, Minister of Transport of the Republic of Latvia, emphasized the significance of airBalticโ€™s milestone:
โ€œThe arrival of airBalticโ€™s 50th Airbus A220-300 is not just a milestone for the airline but a testament to Latviaโ€™s growing role in European aviation. This aircraft, with its striking Baltic-themed livery, symbolizes our regionโ€™s ambition, connectivity, and the strength of our national carrier. As airBaltic expands, RIX Riga Airport continues to evolve as a key hub, reinforcing our commitment to innovation, jobs, and sustainable growth in aviation.โ€

A Global Design Contest to Mark the Milestone

In late 2023, airBaltic launched a global livery design contest to find the perfect design for its milestone aircraft. The competition received 840 entries from all over the world, and over 28,000 votes were cast by airBaltic Club loyalty program members. The winning design, which represented the national and Baltic heritage, garnered over 30% of the votes. The final design was modified to meet the technical requirements for the aircraft, and the A220-300 will be joining the airBaltic fleet in February 2025.

Bringing the Design to Life

The painting of the aircraft’s new livery took 18 days to complete, with a total of 21 colors used in the design. For the first time, the Airbus A220 paintshop teams in Mirabel, Canada, employed a stencil overlay technique to layer the colors, giving the design its distinct and vibrant appearance.

airBalticโ€™s Journey with the A220-300

Since becoming the global launch operator for the Airbus A220-300 in late 2016, airBaltic has revolutionized its operations with this aircraft. The airline now operates a single-type fleet of A220-300 aircraft, and to date, over 20 million passengers have flown on them. The airBaltic A220-300s have completed over 200,000 flights and flown nearly 450,000 block hours.

This remarkable milestone serves as a testament to airBaltic’s commitment to growth, innovation, and its role in connecting the Baltic States to the world.

Avelo Airlines Celebrates National Pizza Day with a Large Slice of Affordability for Connecticut Pizza Lovers

Ahead of National Pizza Day this Sunday, Avelo Airlines will celebrate New Haven’s world-famous pizza legacy with a large slice of affordability for Connecticut travelers. As the official airline of New Haven Apizza, Avelo is offering $40 off* roundtrip base fares from Southern Connecticut’s most convenient airport โ€” Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN) โ€” to 30 savory destinations.

Avelo is offering the discount to help Connecticut residents spread the word about New Haven pizza outside the state. To make it easier and more affordable for residents of other states to experience New Haven pizza for themselves, Avelo is offering the same $40 roundtrip discount from 30 cities to HVN.

Avelo Airlines Founder and CEO Andrew Levy said, “As Connecticut’s Hometown Airline, we can’t think of a better way to celebrate National Pizza Day than help the state’s pizza enthusiasts spread the word about America’s best pizza. At the same time, we want to make it easy for others to discover why everyone is talking about New Haven pizza.”

Avelo is offering the discount as part of the airline’s partnership with the State of Connecticut, the City of New Haven, Taste of New Haven, and local pizzeria owners. Last spring, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro recognized New Haven and Connecticut Pizza as the Pizza Capital of the United States in a proclamation recorded as a Congressional Record Statement. Avelo Airlines flew a delegation of 100 pizzeria owners, public officials, community leaders, veterans, pizza enthusiasts, and media to Washington, D.C., for the ceremony on the steps of the U.S. Capitol.

Travelers can use the $40 roundtrip discount by applying the “CTPIZZA” promo code when booking their trips at AveloAir.com. Flights must be purchased by February 13, 2025, for travel on select dates* between March 26 and June 10, 2025. Only flights between HVN and its 30 nonstop destinations are eligible.

U.S. Representative Rosa DeLauro said, “Last spring, I proudly recognized New Haven as the Pizza Capital of the United States, cementing its place in history as the home of America’s best pizza. New Haven offers the best pizza in the U.S.โ€”and there’s no comparison. Just ask any Connecticut resident, and they’ll tell you that New Haven’s pizza, or ‘apizza’ as we call it, is undeniably the best in the country. For generations, family-owned pizzerias have honed their craft, setting the standard for excellence with coal-fired ovens and perfectly charred, crisp crusts. This dedication to perfection has made our state a pizza giant. We hope more people will be able to experience the incredible tradition and taste of New Haven pizza for themselves.”

In addition to the fare discount, Avelo is collaborating with Taste of New Haven to offer out-of-town visitors $40 off their world-famous pizza tours. Travelers can learn more about New Haven Pizza Tours and book their pizza pilgrimage using the same “CTPIZZA” promo code at TasteofNewHaven.com.

Taste of New Haven Founder and CEO Colin Caplan said, “Taste of New Haven has teamed up with Avelo Airlines to encourage pizza lovers to visit New Haven and embark on a pizza pilgrimage to the Pizza Capital of America. As the official airline of apizza, we are proud to offer Avelo Customers this very special rate on our Pizza Tours. Get this hot deal while the pizza is still hot.”

Connecticut’s Hometown Airline
HVN and BDL are Avelo’s largest shared base of operation. The airline currently serves 36 routes from the state (30 from HVN and six from BDL). That’s more nonstop destinations and routes than any other airline operating in Connecticut. Avelo employs more than 300 Crewmembers in the state and indirectly contributes to hundreds of additional jobs at these airports and in the greater New Haven and Hartford communities.

New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker said, “This exciting new partnership between Avelo Airlines and Taste of New Haven promotes affordable, direct connections for travelers to one of the Elm City’s most cherished culinary destinations. New Haven-style pizza isn’t just food โ€“ it’s a cultural experience that is drawing visitors from across the country and the globe. It also demonstrates the importance of Tweed Airport to our local economy, which serves as a catalyst for travel and tourism that supports our local restaurants and city.”

Since taking flight in Connecticut three years ago, Avelo has flown more than 2.8 million Customers on over 20,000 flights.

America’s Most Reliable and Convenient Airline
Since taking flight on April 28, 2021, Avelo has flown more than 6 million Customers on over 46,000 flights. Today, Avelo serves 53 cities spanning 23 states and Puerto Rico and three international destinations: Jamaica, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic.

Avelo has unlocked a new era of convenience, choice, and competition by flying unserved routes to primarily underserved communities across the country. Most Avelo routes have at least one small, easy to use airport. This makes traveling with Avelo a smoother, easier and more enjoyable experience than contending with the crowds, congestion and long walks at larger airports. Avelo is distinguished by its world-class customer satisfaction levels exemplified by its 2024 Net Promoter Score (NPS) which ranks among the best airlines and most admired brands in the world.

Avelo is America’s most reliable airline. In 2024, the airline ranked #1 in on-time performance and achieved the lowest flight cancellation rate among U.S. carriers. These results are provided by Anuvu, a leading aviation data services company also utilized by The Wall Street Journal for the publication’s annual airline ranking. Anuvu’s complete industry results and rankings are available at AveloAir.com.

Avelo offers an abundance of advanced seating options. One third of its aircraft seats (Avelo Premium and Premium Economy) offer extra leg room – ranging from 32 inches to more than 36 inches of pitch. These seats offer a more comfortable experience for Customers who value more space. Customers can also purchase window and aisle seats in advance of their flight. In addition to advance seat assignments, Avelo offers several unbundled travel-enhancing options that give Customers the flexibility to pay only for what they value, including priority boarding, checked bags, carry-on overhead bags, and bringing a pet in the cabin.

Additionally, families can travel with ease knowing every child 14 and under will be automatically seated with an accompanying adult at no additional cost.
