South African Airways to add Abidjan and Brazzaville

South African Airways (Johannesburg) will add two new African destinations, Abidjan and Brazzaville, bringing its total of African destinations to 28.

Abidjan, Ivory Coast, will be served twice-weekly with the pictured Airbus A330-200s starting on August 17.

Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, will also be served two days a week with Airbus A319s, starting on September 13.

South African Airways to drop the Cape Town-London Heathrow route on August 15

South African Airways (Johannesburg) will operate the last nonstop Cape Town-London (Heathrow) flight on August 15. The route is being dropped after 20 years due to high taxes and declining traffic. Future passengers will be routed through Johannesburg.

South African Airways starts nonstop Johannesburg-New York service

South African Airways (SAA) (Johannesburg) as planned launched its new nonstop service between New York (JFK) and Johannesburg on May 1. The northbound, nonstop flight from Johannesburg to New York complements the already popular morning nonstop New York-Johannesburg service that provides quick and convenient connections to more than 40 destinations throughout the African continent. Previously, the return flight SA 203 from Johannesburg to New York made a 1-hour passenger and refueling stop in Dakar, Senegal. Effective May 1 flight SA 203 now departs Johannesburg at 8:35 p.m. (2035 for a nonstop journey to New York that arrives at 6:40 a.m. (0640) the following day.

JetBlue Airways and South African Airways expand their interline partnership

JetBlue Airways (New York) and South African Airways (Johannesburg) have announced an expansion of their interline partnership, with South African Airways now offering code share services on JetBlue flights effective March 3rd. The code share service will be available with SAA flight numbers on JetBlue flights to 20 cities served by the airline in the U.S., connecting through either New York’s John F. Kennedy International (JFK) or Washington, D.C. (Dulles) airports and SAA’s Johannesburg hub, where passengers can access connections to more than 45 cities throughout South Africa and southern Africa.

South African Airways also announced recently that its return service from Johannesburg to New York JFK will now operate nonstop beginning on May 1.
