Vision Airlines (Atlanta) is being listed by a Korean travel site (Transcosmos) as the airline that will operate three roundtrips a week on the Los Angeles-Seattle/Tacoma-Seoul (Incheon) route with its Boeing 767-200 ERs. Vision Airlines adds new seasonal service from Rockford and Springfield, IL

Vision Airlines (Atlanta) in the wake of the sudden shutdown of Direct Air (Myrtle Beach) added seasonal service in March from Rockford and Springfield, IL to Fort Myers (Direct Air served nearby Punta Gorda from both cities). This temporary service is due to end at the end of April.

The airline is also seasonally serving Freeport on Grand Bahama Island from Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood, Louisville, Raleigh/Durham, Richmond and Baltimore/Washington. Service to FPO is expected to end on April 30 when the airline will shift its focus to a summer destination, probably the Northwest Florida Regional Airport.

Vision Airlines started its new service to Freeport on November 11, 2011. Vision suspended operations at Northwest Florida Regional Airport, a summer destination, in February 2012.

Current Route Map: The Vision Route Map is certainly an evolving map, always changing with the seasons and the price of fuel. Many cities previously served have been dropped. It will be interesting to see what cities and routes will be added for the summer season with the higher fuel costs. Unprofitable routes will not be added back.

Vision Airlines announces new nonstop flights to Florida from Champaign, Illinois and Clarksburg, West Virginia

Vision Airlines (Atlanta) has announced it will be adding flights to Sanford (near Orlando) and Punta Gorda (near Fort Myers) starting the week of December 19. Champaign, Illinois will see nonstop flights to Punta Gorda on Mondays and Fridays. Clarksburg, West Virginia will see nonstop flights to Sanford on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Vision Airlines will also offer nonstop flights from Louisville to Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood, Punta Gorda, and Sanford. A direct flight to Destin/Ft. Walton Beach through Atlanta will continue as well.

Nonstop flights to Freeport, Grand Bahama Island begin on November 3, 2011 from Baltimore/Washington, Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood, Louisville, Richmond and Raleigh/Durham.

Vision has added these new winter routes as it downsizes the Destin/Fort Walton Beach operation during the northern Florida winter.

Vision Airlines reconfigures its system for the winter season

Vision Airlines (Atlanta) has now made it official on some of the changes we previously reported for the upcoming winter season. Yesterday Vision Airlines published its winter schedule and announced a shift in the fall flight schedule. Vision Airlines will continue to serve the Destin/Ft. Walton Beach area, but only with flights from Atlanta, Louisville, Tunica (Memphis), Sanford (Orlando), and St. Petersburg/Tampa/Clearwater through the fall and winter schedule.

Little Rock will continue to have service to Destin/Ft. Walton Beach only until November 2.

Vision will add routes to its winter schedule with new flights from Louisville to Punta Gorda (near Ft Myers) and Sanford, Little Rock to Sanford and St. Louis to Punta Gorda.

These changes will take place as early as August 19. As previously reported, the company will discontinue service to Lafayette, Shreveport, Chattanooga, Asheville and Knoxville. We can assume these routes were not meeting their expectations.

According to the airline, “We expect to have a robust schedule of flights to Northwest Florida Regional Airport resume again on April 1, 2012. We are pleased to continue to grow our business in Florida by offering additional flights from Louisville and St Louis. Nonstop flights to popular winter destinations such as Sanford, Ft Lauderdale and Punta Gorda have been among the most requested routes from these airports”.

Unfortunately for the airline, Destin/Fort Walton Beach is in the northern Florida Panhandle and is generally only a summer vacation destination. To keep going year-round, the company will be forced each year to shift its routes to central and southern Florida and the Bahamas/Caribbean destinations to retain a viable winter-time route system. This becomes a costly strategy for the airline. Will it work in the long-run?

Vision Airlines to drop Shreveport on August 16, Las Vegas on August 18

Vision Airlines (Atlanta) continues to modify its route map, dropping cities quickly and adding new routes in an attempt to find a successful plan. The company will drop all service to Shreveport on August 16 and scheduled service to Las Vegas on August 18. The LAS route from Destin/Fort Walton Beach was only added on June 2 but proved to be unpopular.
