Flair Airlines reports record breaking summer, will lease Boeing 737-800s

Flair Airlines has announced that, after doubling its summer flying, the privately-held Flair Airlines surpassed load factor projections.

โ€œItโ€™s been a delightfully busy summer for usโ€ stated David Tait, Flairโ€™s Executive Chairman. โ€œSince mid June – when we more than doubled our capacity and expanded our network to 10 cities from Victoria to Halifax – our fleet of seven aircraft has carried more than a quarter million passengers and weโ€™re currently enjoying load factors in excess of 90%.โ€

Having led the way as the nationโ€™s first lowย fare airline, among other initiatives, Flair is working closely with Edmontonโ€™s communityย at large to firmly establish its position asthe cityโ€™sโ€˜hometown airline.โ€™Already, some 75% of the airlineโ€™s flights go throughย Edmonton International Airportย EIA.Throughout the coming months, Flair will continue to relocate staff to its new HQ building at EIA, as well as hire for new positions from the local labor pool.

Tait added that, โ€œAs one of the founders of Virgin Atlantic Airways, Iโ€™ve played the David versus Goliath role before โ€“ and won! The tenacity of the Flair team, their spirit and determination to ensure that air travel becomes an affordable reality for all Canadians is really quite remarkable. I am truly proud to be of a part of this dynamic team, and, as Yogi Berra would have said, โ€œItโ€™s dรฉjร  vu all over again.โ€

Flair recently announced low fare service (starting in December) out of Edmonton, Winnipeg and Toronto (YYZ), to Palm Springs,Phoenix/Mesa, Las Vegas,ย Miami,ย Orlando and St. Pete/Clearwater.

Tait added that, โ€œGoing forward, our robustย fleet expansion plans should see up to 20 newer, more fuel efficient and longer-range aircraftby the end of 2020. The first additions will start arriving in early 2019 as our currentย aircraft are rapidly phased out.โ€

Flair is intending to phase out its older Boeing 737-400s.

In other news, Flair will lease Boeing 737-800s from Air Transat to support its expansion.

Flair Airlines has made this announcement:

Flair Airlines is delighted to announce that David M. Tait OBE has joined Canada’s only operating low fare airline in the capacity of Executive Chairman.

A Canadian, David brings a wealth of unique airline experience having worked with Wardair Canada in Toronto, Laker Airways in Toronto and Miami, Virgin Atlantic Airways in New York and Air Canada in Montreal.

In 1984, with the then little-known Richard Branson, David helped craft a business plan for what would become Virgin Atlantic Airways. He then became one of the nascent airline’s first employees. Starting out with a single Boeing 747, he then spent the next 18 years as Executive Vice President and a director building the airline into one of the industry’s most innovative and critically acclaimed carriers.

In May of 2001, David was awarded an OBE (Officer of The Order of the British Empire) by Queen Elizabeth II for “Services to British Aviation in North America.”

After leaving Virgin, David served as Senior Vice President, Customer Service for Air Canada. He is also a best-selling author and award-winning travel columnist.

Commenting on his appointment, David said, “Canadians have been denied the services of an independent, truly low cost, low fare carrier for way too long. With Flair, I am excited to join another airline that, like we did with Virgin, can shake up the status quo with innovative, quality, friendly air service at consistently low fares and – most importantly – get more people out of their couches and into the air.”

Jim Scott, CEO, Flair Airlines stated, “We are thrilled to have David join our team. His expertise, deep industry knowledge and unique experience in successfully leveraging the advantages the little guy has in an industry dominated by relative Goliaths, will be invaluable. The only way to build the best airline in Canada is to have the best people โ€“ and David certainly falls into that category.”

On June 15 Flair will more than double its present total of 90 flights per week with increased nonstop and direct connectivity throughout an expanded Canadian network that stretches from Halifax to Victoria.
