Charter airline Air Azul to expand on June 1

Air Azul (Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood) is expanding. The charter airline commenced flying on December 27, 2008 between Nashville and Somerset, KY with a Fairchild Swearingen Metroliner III. Flights are operated under the AOC of its parent Locair. Locair was established in 1996 as an on-demand cargo carrier with Metros. Now Air Azul is planning to operate large public charter flights starting on June 1 from Rockford (near Chicago) to both Newark (EWR) and Baltimore/Washington (BWI) with a leased Boeing 737-800 (possibly from Sun Country Airlines). The following day it will start charter flights from Lansing to both EWR and BWI also with a 737-800. The company is also planning to also operate to Melbourne, FL, South Bend and Toledo.
