AirTran Airways (Orlando), yesterday (April 6) began nonstop service between General Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. The airline will offer two daily nonstop flights between the two destinations and as stated by the airline, “the only carrier to operate full-sized Boeing jets on the route” (a dig at American Eagle and Midwest Airlines-branded service operated by Republic Airlines).
This new route marks the 18th city AirTran Airways serves from General Mitchell (MKE) which is taking market share away from Midwest. The company also officially opened its Milwaukee pilot and flight attendant bases, significantly expanding its operations and number of crew members at this key location, putting further pressure on Midwest (Republic Airways Holdings).
