Toronto Buttonville Municipal Airport to close

Toronto Buttonville Municipal Airport (YKZ/CYKZ) is a medium-sized general aviation airport located in Buttonwood, Ontario, 18 miles north of downtown Toronto. It is operated by Toronto Airways Limited.

In September 2009, the Sifton family, owners of the airport, announced plans to re-develop the airport in the next seven years (2009-2016) into a mixed use of commercial, retail and residential development. In the meantime the airport will continue to operate.

The Armadale Company Limited and the Cadillac Fairview Corporation Limited have announced a new joint venture to develop the 170 acre site for non-aviation activities. The airport could close in the next year.

The last scheduled airline service was operated by Bearskin Air (BLS) to and from Ottawa, but that ceased several years ago.  The nearest GA airports in the Toronto area are either Toronto City Centre (YTZ) or Oshawa to the east (YOO).
