Firefly to introduce the new Boeing 737-800 on January 15 from Kuala Lumpur

Firefly (FlyFirefly Sdn Bhd) (fireflyz.com.my) (subsidiary of Malaysia Airlines) (Subang) has announced its next phase of expansion. The subsidiary is adding a new fleet of Boeing 737-800s and will operate out of the main terminal of Kuala Lumpur International Airport with the new aircraft. The airline intends to operate 30 aircraft by 2015.

Firefly’s first Boeing 737-800 arrives in December 2010 and will begin revenue operations on January 15, 2011.

The first routes from January 15, 2011:

Twice daily Kuala Lumpur – Kota Kinabalu
Twice daily Kuala Lumpur – Kuching

The name Firefly (in Mandarin fei ying; in Bahasa Malaysia Kunang-Kunang) was chosen to depict the airline’s characteristics, which are agility, brilliance, charming and fun.
