Aegean Airlines loses over $32 million in 2010, will phase out the last RJ100 in May

Aegean Airlines (Athens) lost over $32 million in 2010.

In its international network, with the addition of new routes, the company carried 3.06 million passengers, achieving a 9% growth factor compared with 2009. On the other hand, due to weak demand conditions, passengers carried in the domestic network declined by 16% to 3.17 million passengers with a significant reduction in the average fare.

During the upcoming summer season, the company will introduce new routes from Athens to Moscow and Bologna and increase its frequencies from Athens to London (Heathrow), Rome, Paris (CDG), Brussels, Barcelona and Madrid.

The airline will also strengthen its base at Thessaloniki with new routes to Moscow and Paris serving 18 domestic and international destinations from Thessaloniki.

Aegean will also operate out of Larnaca, Cyprus with new nonstop flights to London (Heathrow) as well as six Greek destinations

With these new additions, Aegean will operate 35 international and 24 domestic routes.

Aegean will also retire the last BAe RJ100 and become an all-Airbus operator in May 2011.
