Wizz Air carries over 11 million passengers in 2011, up 15%

Wizz Air (Hungary) (Budapest) announced it carried over 11 million passengers in 2011, representing 15% growth year on year.

Average load factor reached over 84%, in line with previous years.

The airline opened three new operating bases in 2011: Belgrade in Serbia, Vilnius in Lithuania and Tirgu Mures in Romania.

Currently, Wizz Air operates from 15 bases and offers over 200 routes across Europe. The carrier employs 1,500 people in Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Serbia, Lithuania and Switzerland.

In other news, the low-fare carrier launched the Budapest-Dortmund route on January 13.

Additionally the carrier, starting on April 25 2012, will add Stavanger (Norway) from Katowice. The new Katowice – Stavanger service will operate initially twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays.
