American Airlines Boeing 767-323 WL N399AN (msn 29606) LAX (Michael B. Ing), originally uploaded by Airliners Gallery.American Airlines’ (Dallas/Fort Worth) new Chairman, President and CEO Thomas W. Horton meanwhile was very dismissive in his remarks towards US Airways (Phoenix) and their attempts at a possible AA-US merger in an interview in the Charlotte Observer. Horton does not believe US brings anything unique to AA or anything it can’t get on its own.
To be fair, US Airways still has not finished the US Airways-America West merger as the company in essence is still two airlines with two fleets (East and West) and two groups of pilots.
Message to Tom Horton: Now with first new Boeing 777-300ERs coming soon, new interiors and the reorganization into a leaner “new American Airlines”, now is also the time for a new brand. 44 years is long enough for a very tired-looking aircraft color scheme (above). It is time for a change. Time for a fresh restart.
