Spirit Airlines (Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood) yesterday (February 9) launched service to three new destinations from DFW International Airport, with flights to Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson International Airport (ATL), Orlando International Airport (MCO) and New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA). The three inaugural flights today mark the first wave of a large planned expansion of offerings at DFW by Spirit Airlines.
Spirit also announced that it will begin four weekly flights between DFW and Tampa starting May 4, 2012.
In addition, Spirit has filed with the U.S. Department of Transportation to begin service between DFW and Toluca/Mexico City. Schedules and fares will be announced upon receipt of necessary governmental approval.
By this spring, Spirit will more than triple the number of cities it serves from DFW since it started offering its ultra low fares to the Metroplex a year ago. In addition to Tampa, Spirit recently announced that it will begin service between DFW and Myrtle Beach with three nonstop flights per week starting on May 3, 2012. Daily nonstop service from DFW to Boston and Phoenix-Mesa starts on March 22, 2012.
In addition, the ultra low-fare carrier yesterday started twice-daily nonstop service between Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport and Las Vegas.
