Garuda Indonesia signs contract today for 11 additional Airbus A330-300s

Garuda Indonesia Airways (Jakarta) has signed a firm order with Airbus for eleven more A330-300 widebody aircraft. The contract was signed today (April 12) in Jakarta by Emirsyah Satar, President and CEO, Garuda Indonesia and Tom Williams, Executive Vice President, Programs, Airbus, in the presence of Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and visiting British Prime Minister David Cameron.

The eleven A330-300s will join the Garuda Indonesia fleet in stages, starting in 2013 through 2017. Currently, Garuda Indonesia already has six A330-300s and eight A330-200s in operation. The published price of each A330-330 is listed at USD $231.1 million, making the total purchase price for the eleven aircraft USD $2.54 billion. Garuda currently operates six A330-300s and eight A330-200s.

The orders for the 11 A330-300s is part of Garuda Indonesia’s fleet expansion program, which is carried out to increase the airline’s capacity and develop the network in its medium and long haul routes. By 2015 Garuda will operate as many as 194 aircraft, consisting of Boeing 737-800s,  Airbus A330-300/200s, Boeing 777-300 ERs and the Airbus A320s operated by Citilink.
