TSB Report: sleepy Air Canada pilot mistook plane for Venus, 16 hurt in January

Air Canada (Montreal) pilot is being blamed by the Transportation Safety Board (TSB) of Canada in a January incident where 14 passengers and two crew members where hurt after the first officer took evasive action after mistaking the planet Venus for an approaching U.S. military aircraft. The “confused and disoriented” first officer overrode the auto-pilot by forcefully pressing on the control column, putting the aircraft into a dive on a trans-Atlantic from Toronto (Pearson) to Zurich.
