PAL Airlines to take legal action seeking compensation due to foreign airlines operating domestic flights in Chile

PAL Airlines (Santiago) announced it is taking legal actions against the Chilean government seeking damages for the lost market share due to foreign airlines operating domestically in Chile. Specifically the legal actions are aimed at carriers from Mexico and Sweden. Both countries have not signed a reciprocal Open Skies agreement with Chile.

Previously the Chilean government authorized West Air Sweden (West Atlantic) and Global Air (Aerolíneas Damojh S.A. de C.V.) to operate domestic services within Chile. West Air is operating its Bombardier CRJ200 freighter SE-RIF. Global Air was recently allowed to operate by the Chilean DGAC (Chile’s General Directorate for Civil Aviation) and the JAC (Chile’s Joint Civil Aviation Authority). Global Air is operating a Boeing 737-200 registered as XA-TWR. Both aircraft are operating in Chile for Servicios Aéreos Río Baker. XA-TWR operated a flight transporting mining personnel between Antofagasta and Calama on May 14.
