Frontier Airlines celebrates its 18th birthday anniversary

Frontier Airlines (2nd) (Denver) turns 18 on Thursday (July 5). The second version of “Frontier” is celebrating by offering a 18% discount off its domestic airfares for two days. The birthday fare sale – which starts today (July 3) and continues through Thursday (July 5) – features 18% savings on travel through mid-November to all of the airline’s destinations across the lower 48 states.

The 18% discount applies to regular and sale fares for travel July 24 through Nov. 14, 2012.

With just a handful of employees, many from the original Frontier Airlines, and a couple of Boeing 737-200s (see above), Colorado’s hometown airline took to the skies on July 5, 1994, from Denver’s old Stapleton Airport. From that small start, the airline with the animals on its tails has spread its wings far and wide – offering service to more than 70 destinations in the United States, Mexico, Costa Rica, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic. Frontier now employs 5,000 aviation professionals, operating from its hub at Denver International Airport.
