Delta Air Lines issued this statement in the wake of a snowstorm at its Atlanta (ATL) hub:
Prolonged wintry precipitation and plunging temperatures continue to adversely affect Delta’s hub operation in Atlanta, causing approximately 970 flight cancellations Friday and approximately 290 for Saturday. Delta people are working through the night Friday to mitigate further impact to customers. Delta teams will be focused Saturday on resetting the Atlanta hub as the weather clears, while carefully managing winter storm impact along the mid-Atlantic region and at its New York City hubs.
Waivers for customers ticketed to, from or through Atlanta–now extended for customers ticketed through Dec. 10–New York City, and airports in the U.S. northeast are in place.

Delta’s Atlanta operation continues to be challenged by an intensified wintry mix driving lengthy deicing delays. The airline has canceled an additional 250 flights for a total of 625 from Atlanta today. Additionally, Delta has added a weather waiver for the northeast region including the New York area and Boston for travel on Saturday, Dec. 9. Please check Delta.com for the latest updates.
Noon ET, Dec. 8
On Thursday, Delta initially canceled about 125 flights for Friday given the forecast for winter storms at its largest hub, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, and canceled an additional 250 flights as of noon Friday. Delta will maintain a delayed operation to ensure flights are properly de-iced and continuously moving. The airline will monitor any changes to the storm and may add cancellations or further delays as needed.
Customers are encouraged to use delta.com to change travel plans if ticketed to, from or through Atlanta on Dec. 8-9. Customers affected by weather in the Atlanta area may make a one-time change to their ticket without fee if they are scheduled to travel to, from, or through the affected destinations on Delta, Delta Connection, or Delta-coded flights during the specified time periods listed here. Additionally, if customers’ flights are cancelled or significantly delayed, they may request a refund.
