Montenegro Airlines will be grounded and shut down, within days.
This month, the government of Montenegro announced the shutdown and liquidation of the company in the forthcoming weeks stating mismanagement and accumulating losses for several years.
The government of Montenegro is pulling the plug on the loss-making national flag carrier according to government representative Mladen Bojanić who stated:
“This Government does not have a problem with making decisions. But, in this case, we cannot make any decisions in favor of Montenegro Airlines.”
“We have called in companies [for advice] and we spoke to European consultants. In the end, we have concluded that we cannot make a single decision in favor of Montenegro Airlines that is lawful.”
A new carrier will be formed later in 2021.
Montenegro Airlines flew its first flight on May 7, 1997 between Podgorica and Bari.
Montenegro Airlines fleet consists of four airplanes, of which three are Embraer 195 and one Fokker 100.
