Kuwait Airways selects Boeing for 10 777-300 ERs

Kuwait Airways (Kuwait City) has selected Boeing (some good news for Boeing) with an intent to acquire 10 Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft.

Boeing issued this statement:

Boeing is pleased that Kuwait Airways has announced its intent to purchase 10 777-300 ER (Extended Range) airplanes worth $3.3 billion at current list prices.

โ€œWe appreciate the start of a new partnership with Kuwait Airways,โ€ said Marty Bentrott, vice president of Sales for Middle East, Russia and Central Asia, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. โ€œBoeing looks forward to an enduring relationship with Kuwait Airways and we are excited to see that the 777-300 ER airplane, which is the preferred long-haul carrier for so many airlines around the world, will now play an important role in the airlineโ€™s fleet strategy and expansion.โ€

It’s Boeing 777-200 fleet (pictured) is being phased out but this new order will restore the Boeing name in Kuwait. WSJ: Kuwait calls in Ms. Roumi to turn around Kuwait Airways

Kuwait Airways (Kuwait City) has a new CEO. Ms. Rasha Al Roumi, 52, has been selected by the Kuwait government to turn around the flag carrier according to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

Kuwait Airways to be privatized, will add 20-21 new aircraft in the next two years

Kuwait Airways (Kuwait City) is going to be privatized by the state of Kuwait. According to the Kuwait Times, the National Assembly has approved an Amiri decree to convert Kuwait Airways Corporation (KAC) into a shareholding company. The newly-reorganized Kuwait Airways intends to purchase 20 or 21 new aircraft within the next two years according to the report.

Kuwait Airways fleet now comprises three Airbus A320-200s, three A310-300s, five A300-600s, four A340-300s and two Boeing Boeing 777-200s (17 aircraft total).
