Discovery Air to commence operations on June 9 in Nigeria

Discovery Air (Lagos) will start scheduled passenger operations on June 9 with three Boeing 737-300s. The company’s Air Operator Certificate (AOC) was issued on June 3. The first route will be between Lagos and Abuja in Nigeria. Services to Port Harcourt will also be operated.

The company was incorporated on July 23, 2008 as a private limited liability company. The name comes from its primary owner, First Deepwater Discovery.

Discovery Air is a new airline in Nigeria with two Boeing 737-300s

Discovery Air (Lagos) is another new airline in Nigeria. The first Boeing 737-300 has been painted in this bright color scheme at Southend. Former Virgin Express and Brussels Airlines Boeing 737-36N OO-VEH (msn 28571) is now registered as N571TP with Wells Fargo Bank Northwest. It is due to become 5N-BQO on delivery.

The second aircraft for the new airline is former Western Pacific Airlines (N965WP)/VARIG (PP-VPX)/bmibaby Boeing 737-33R still registered as G-TOYK.
Discovery Air is planning to launch scheduled passenger operations from Lagos to Abuja and Port Harcourt.
According to the airline, Discovery Air was incorporated on July 23, 2008 as a private limited liability company. Discovery Air is “a private sector-driven airline, built from the ground up with the aspiration to become a  Nigerian multinational company. We are fully owned by Nigerian shareholders and operating in Nigeria, with Lagos as our hub.”
