Air Cambodia orders the COMAC C909

At the 2026 Farnborough International Airshow, Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) achieved a historic international breakthrough by securing a firm order from Air Cambodia for 20 C909 regional jets. The deal marks Air Cambodia as the inaugural foreign flag carrier to formally purchase and commit to operating the Chinese-built regional jet platform. The C909 designation represents the official rebrand of COMAC’s twin-engine ARJ21-700 regional airliner, a structural update introduced by the state-owned manufacturer to bring its regional jet lineup into a cohesive naming convention alongside the narrowbody C919 and widebody C929 programs.

This landmark order represents a major geopolitical and commercial victory for COMAC as it seeks to export its commercial aviation lineup across Southeast Asia and break the historic regional dominance of Western aircraft manufacturers. For Air Cambodia, the addition of 20 C909s will provide the capital-efficient, short-haul capacity needed to aggressively expand domestic routes within Cambodia and establish high-frequency regional feeder services to key tourism and trade hubs in neighboring Vietnam, Thailand, and Laos.

Air Cambodia becomes launch customer for new Business Class on ATR 72-600 featuring โ€˜X-Space Tableโ€™

Air Cambodia, the national flag carrier of Cambodia, is set to redefine regional air travel as the launch customer of ATRโ€™s new innovative premium seat featuring the โ€˜X-Space Tableโ€™, a smart, plug-and-play solution that converts a standard dual economy seat into a single premium seat within minutes. Under development, its certification is expected in Q1 2027.

Following the delivery of its brand-new ATR 72-600 in May 2025, Air Cambodia plans to retrofit the โ€˜X-Space Tableโ€™ in 2027 across its fleet of three ATRs. The business class section will feature four business seats arranged in two rows in a one-by-one layout, offering direct window and aisle access for each traveller, as well as enhanced comfort, privacy and individual stowage compartments.

The โ€˜X-Space Tableโ€™ is part of ATR HighLine, the manufacturerโ€™s collection of high-end cabin interiors introduced in 2023. It is engineered to support dynamic fleet operations, enabling swift installation and removal, allowing airlines to seamlessly switch between full economy and dual-class cabin configurations. This flexibility empowers operators to respond efficiently to fluctuating passenger demand, seasonal variations or charter-specific requirements with minimal downtime and maximum efficiency.
