Air Malta launches its summer 2021 flight schedule

Air Malta today launched its summer flight schedule with a planned operation to 20 cities. During the six-month program (covering May till October 2021), the Airline is committed to operate 3,012 flights and will offer for sale over half a million seats.

This summer Air Malta will operate direct flights to/from Amsterdam, Brussels, Catania, Frankfurt, Geneva, Lisbon, London Heathrow, Lyon, Manchester, Munich, Milan Linate, Moscow*, Palermo, Paris Charles De Gaulle, Paris Orly, Prague, Rome, Tel Aviv*, Vienna, and Zurich. (* – operations to these airports is subject to the opening of safe corridors).

Key highlights during peak season include:

• Up to 10 weekly services on London Heathrow.

• Twice weekly services to Manchester, supporting the Midlands and North of the UK.

• Up to 11 weekly services on Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports in Paris.

• Up to 9 weekly services on Catania.

• Rome, Munich, and Vienna all served up to 5 times weekly.

Air Malta announces a ‘minimum guaranteed flight schedule’ to at least 15 destinations with 82 weekly flights

Air Malta has today launched its Winter 20/21 flight schedule covering 21 destinations with 156 flights a week. The Airline gave a commitment that it will operate at least 50% of this schedule whilst continuing to waive rebooking fees if customers wish to change their booked flights for any reason.

To guarantee peace of mind and ensure reliability during these uncertain and testing times, Air Malta announced a ‘minimum guaranteed flight schedule’ to at least 15 destinations with 82 weekly flights.

“In view of the constant change in scenario, the Winter 20/21 Flight Schedule will be done differently this year to give peace of mind for the client that might remain stranded due to cancellation of flight. Through the Business Guaranteed will ensure the operation of a network defined on the passengers and cargo movements in any case when legally possible. During the winter schedule there will be 156 flights a week, 50% of which are business guaranteed. This will guarantee access to major airport hubs irrespective of any cancellations”, explained Minister Schembri.

Minister Schembri launched also Air Malta’s Flexibility Guaranteed stamp through which the airline will give additional booking flexibility for clients to benefit from an improved customer experience through the upgrades implemented in the online portal. “Air Malta is also working to ensure that through more operational efficiency it would be able to offer more competitive fares some starting from €29 this winter”, said Schembri.

Minister Schembri said that recent times have clearly shown, now more than ever, the importance for a small country like Malta to have its own national airline, which ultimately, despite the circumstances, ensured connectivity with the rest of the world.

Air Malta on July 1, 2020 resumed operations.

The carrier restarted flights to Berlin, Catania, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Geneva, Luxembourg, Munich, Prague, Vienna and Zurich.

After the closure for over three months of Malta’s International Airport for commercial operations, Air Malta will commence its summer its schedule on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, connecting Malta to 22 destinations within Europe.

Air Malta flights to Rome, Lyon and Marseille will now join the previously announced flights to Catania, Munich, Frankfurt, Berlin, Dusseldorf, Vienna, Zurich, Geneva, and Prague commencing on July 1, 2020.

As from July 15, 2020, the Maltese Airline will also start operations to Amsterdam, Brussels, Milan, London Heathrow, Lisbon, Madrid, Palermo, Paris Charles De Gaulle and Orly.

August will also see Air Malta restarting flights to/from Manchester.

A ’new’ city destination on the list is Madrid. After a break of over 10 year of not operating to the Spanish capital, Madrid, Air Malta will restart scheduled services to the city on Saturday, July 18, 2020. The announced operations to Luxembourg will now be transferred to Brussels except for the planned flights to Luxembourg on July 4th and July 11 which will be operated as scheduled.

Air Malta has just launched its new Summer 2020 schedule based on the safe corridor concept and has also opened its reservation systems for sales.

Flights to Catania, Frankfurt, Munich, Dusseldorf, Berlin, Prague and Luxemburg will start operating as of July 1, 2020, with flights to Zurich and Geneva coming online a week later.

After nearly three months of only operating ‘lifeline’ flights to London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Rome, Air Malta is excited to start welcoming scheduled passengers again and looks forward to flying over 150,000 passengers between our European destinations and Malta in collaboration with the Malta Tourism Authority, Malta International Airport and the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association. The Airline’s ‘lifeline’ schedule will remain in operation.

Air Malta to suspend all commercial flights

Air Malta has made this announcement:

Following a decision by the Maltese Health Authorities, Malta is banning all commercial travel to Malta for flights departing after 2359UTC on Friday, March 20, until further notice. This measure was taken to contain the spread of the Coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic.

The ban does not apply to ferry, cargo and humanitarian and repatriation or special flights. Air Malta shall operate such flights as directed by the Government of Malta.

Air Malta suspends all flights to Milan amid coronavirus concerns

Air Malta has suspended its daily flight to Milan until further notice due to the current situation in Northern Italy amid the Coronavirus Covid-19 outbreak, following the lockdown decree issued by the Italian Government.

Whilst calling for calm, the Airline stated that the US’ Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organisation do not suggest restricting flights to and from Milan in their recommendations.

However, on consultation with the Prime Minister, the responsible Minister and Government agencies, the management of Air Malta has resolved to take this decisive action as a measure of reassurance.

“The safety of our passengers, crew and staff, and the concerns raised by the people of Malta is our first priority”, said the Airline in a statement issued tonight.

All passengers affected by the cancellation of flights will be notified.

The airline is constantly monitoring the evolving situation and will announce any changes as they arise.

Qatar Airways and Air Malta sign comprehensive codeshare partnership

Air Malta and Qatar Airways have announced that they signed a comprehensive codeshare agreement. The Agreement reinforces Air Malta’s drive to expand its network and extend its reach. It also shows Qatar Airways’ long-term commitment to Maltese passengers and to boosting tourism to the Islands. Sales will start from today with the first codeshare flights to operate from March 9, 2020.

The codeshare agreement increases Malta’s connectivity with Africa, the Middle East, Australia and Asia by enabling Air Malta’s passengers to travel on Qatar Airways’ flights between Malta, Doha and onward to more than 60 destinations. Air Malta will place its code and flight numbers on several of these Qatar flights thereby allowing the Maltese Airline to participate in these markets not only to and from Malta but also connecting to and from other destinations that it serves.

Qatar Airways’ passengers will also benefit from greater access to Malta and to Air Malta’s extensive Mediterranean network. Codeshare destinations include Cagliari, Palermo and Catania.

Qatar Airways began flying to Malta on June 4, 2019 with daily flights in the summer and a four-times weekly service during winter.

Air Malta aims for yet another winter record

Air Malta is setting its sights on yet another seasonal record. After registering a good winter and summer season, the Maltese Airline, is aiming to increase 7% more flights this season over last year with increased frequencies to London, Brussels and Palermo. The Airline will also introduce three new routes to/from Lyon and Prague (compared to last winter) and continue operating the newly introduced route to the Egyptian capital, Cairo.

Air Malta has increased its operations to and from London. This season the Airline is reconfirming its position as the best carrier on the Malta – London route offering the highest frequencies and choice than any other carrier. On some days Air Malta offers up to 8 daily flights with the best timing to and from London’s best airports (of Heathrow and Gatwick).

Winter operations to Lyon will operate three times weekly while those to Prague twice weekly.

On the back of record passenger figures last summer, Air Malta’s aim is to replicate this success even in winter and improve its operational and commercial performance. With 25 scheduled destinations this season, the Airline is planning to operate 282 weekly flights, up (6.8%) from the average 264 weekly flights flown last season. This strategy follows the trend Air Malta followed this year in that it continued growing over 2018, but at a gentler pace.

Minister for Tourism Konrad Mizzi said that the launching of this winter schedule reflects the Government’s strategy for Air Malta to increase frequencies to strategic destinations. Mizzi noted that flights to London will increase to up to 8 flights on some days and reflects our ambitions in the post-Brexit market. Moreover 10 destinations will be served on a daily basis. This offering is critical for developing Malta into a hub for business and travel.

The winter schedule starts on the 27th October and runs up to the 28th March 2020. During this season the Airline will operate direct flights to Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels, Cairo, Catania, Casablanca, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Lisbon, London Gatwick, London Heathrow, Lyon, Kiev, Milan, Moscow, Munich, Palermo, Paris Charles De Gaulle, Paris Orly, Prague, Rome, Tel Aviv, Tunis, Vienna and Zurich. No less than ten destinations will be served with daily or multiple daily frequencies, primarily to major European hub airports that offer convenient global connectivity with Air Malta’s airline partners.

This season Air Malta will operate with ten aircraft; (7) Airbus A320ceo and (3) Airbus A320neos.

Air Malta is committed to growing inbound and outbound tourism especially during the shoulder and winter periods. The Airline aims to offer a diverse selection of services to main city and hub airports and a high level of frequencies to and from Malta, giving passengers optimum choice and optimum value for money as well as several options to connect beyond to/from airports nor served with direct flights.

Air Malta has its best August in 45 years

Air Malta has registered its best August traffic results in its 45 year’s history. Figures released today by Airline today show that Air Malta carried almost a quarter of a million (248,358) scheduled and charter passengers during its busiest month of the year. These results even top by 4,835 passengers (+2%) last year’s August record figures.

Commenting on these positive results Air Malta’s Chairman Dr Charles Mangion said, “It’s great to see these positive results in this challenging market. We are working hard to improve our Revenue Management, Sales and Distribution processes. These figures follow the trend we have so far seen this year in that we have continued growing over 2018, yet at a gentler pace. This year we primarily focused our efforts to improve our operational and commercial performance. A lot has been achieved through the past three years following the increase in the fleet by three brand new 180-seater Airbus A320s and a total of 25 new opened routes. Today we are flying to 42 destinations. It wasn’t easy. A lot of things had to change, and sacrifices done. This growth is being positively received by our tourism stakeholders who are now again seeing Air Malta as a growing Airline again.

Air Malta’s first flight took off on April 1, 1974. The airline has been instrumental in opening up and connecting Malta to the rest of the world, diversifying and presenting new tourism market opportunities to and from the islands.
