At 06:30 am (local time) on a foggy June 15, 2017, the first Airbus A320 landed at Santiago (SCL) on runway 17L. This is the first aircraft of Chilean ultra low-cost carrier JetSmart.

The livery depicts a Southern Peregrine Falcon and is named “Halcon Peregrino Austral” on the nose (above). The design came from a social media contest. The winner was Andrés Segall, from Santiago, who proposed as the name “Akori”, a word that translates as peregrine falcon.
The start-up was founded and is funded by US-based Indigo Partners, a private equity firm that has been involved with the formation and operation of Frontier Airlines (2nd), Tigerair, Volaris and Wizz Air.
Currently JetSmart is in the process of obtaining its AOC from the Directorate General of Civil Aeronautics, DGAC, in order to comply with all regulations and safety requirements.
