Condor Flugdienst introduces a 1963 “Yellow Tail” Retrojet

Condor Flugdienst (Frankfurt) today (July 30) rolled out at the Manchester paint shop this former Alitalia (2nd) (Rome) Boeing 767-31B ER registered as EI-CRF (msn 25170). The second company retrojet displays the famous “yellow tail” livery introduced on the Vickers Viscounts in 1963.

Condor Flugdienst (Frankfurt) will start three new routes from Munich next summer: Munich-Cancun, Munich-Punta Cana and Munich-Varadero-Puerto Plata with Boeing 767-300 ER aircraft.

Condor Flugdienst starts twice-weekly flights to San Juan

Condor Flugdienst (Frankfurt) on December 21 commenced twice-weekly service between its Frankfurt base and San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Condor Flugdienst unveils a 1961 Airbus A320 retrojet

Condor Flugdienst (Frankfurt) today (December 5) formally unveiled this 1961 retrojet color scheme on its Airbus A320-212 D-AICA (msn 774) at a ceremony at Berlin’s Schönefeld Airport. D-AICA is named “Hans” after travel entrepreneur Hans Geisler.

The company was originally founded on December 21, 1955 as Deutsche Flugdienst GmbH by the four original partners: Norddeutscher Lloyd (27.75%), Hamburg-Amerika-Linie (27.75%), Deutsche Lufthansa (26%) and Deutsche Bundesbahn (18.5%). Based at Frankfurt am Main, the original fleet consists of three British-made Vickers Viking two-engine propeller aircraft, each with 36 seats. The first charter flight is operated on March 29, 1956 with a pilgrimage flight to the Holy Land. Within the first year of operation, Majorca and the Canary Island of Tenerife are added to the flight schedule.

In 1959 Lufthansa takes over 95.5 percent of the stock.

In 1961 Deutsche Flugdienst GmbH takes over and merges with Condor-Luftreederei, another charter airline founded in 1957 by Oetker (Hamburg). As a result of the merger, the name changes to the current day Condor Flugdienst GmbH.

Thomas Cook’s stock tumbles as it goes to the banks for financial help

Thomas Cook Group (London) has lost nearly three-quarters of its market value on the London Stock Exchange after the ailing firm admitted it had gone back to the banks for more financial help according to this report by the Press Association.

Thomas Cook Group plc is a travel company created on June 19, 2007 by the merger of Thomas Cook AG and MyTravel Group plc. At flotation on the London Stock Exchange 52% of the shares in the new company were held by the German mail order and department store corporation Arcandor (former owners of Thomas Cook AG) and 48% owned by the shareholders of MyTravel. On June 9, 2009 Arcandor filed for bankruptcy. The merger, which was backed by 99.9% of shareholders, took place through the formation of “NewCo” which effectively purchased MyTravel and Thomas Cook and was then listed on the London Stock Exchange under the name of Thomas Cook Group plc.

The Thomas Cook Group plc is the parent organization of Condor Flugdienst, Thomas Cook Airlines Scandinavia, Thomas Cook Airlines (Belgium), Thomas Cook Airlines (Canada) and Thomas Cook Airlines (UK).

Condor to start seasonal service to Singapore on December 4

Condor Flugdienst (Frankfurt) will start twice-weekly seasonal Frankfurt-Singapore service on December 4 according to Airline Route.

Condor is coming to Toronto and Baltimore/Washington

Condor Flugdienst (Frankfurt) is adding two new seasonal destinations to its network in North America: Toronto (Pearson) and Baltimore/Washington with bi-weekly flights to both destinations. Toronto will be added on June 22, 2012 and Baltimore/Washington on July 2, 2012.

Condor is also adding extra flight to Las Vegas, Seattle/Tacoma and Vancouver each week. All of these routes will be serviced nonstop from Frankfurt.

The airline will also add twice weekly winter service to San Juan from Frankfurt starting on December 21, 2011.
