Copa Airlines signs order for 22 Boeing 737-800s + 10 options

Copa Airlines (Panama City) has signed a firm order for 22 new Boeing 737-800s and 10 options.

Copa Airlines to lease 10 Boeing 737-800s

Copa Airlines (Panama City) has announced that it has signed lease agreements for ten Boeing 737-800 airplanes, five for delivery in 2011 and five during 2012. Including these leases, Copa Airlines now has firm orders and delivery commitments for 33 aircraft, all of which are Boeing 737-800s.

These new airplanes will be outfitted with Boeing’s “Sky Interior” featuring new 787-style modern sculpted sidewalls and window reveals that provide passengers with a greater connection to the flying experience. They will also benefit from performance enhancements expected to result in a 2 percent reduction in fuel consumption through a combination of airframe and engine improvements.

The lease agreements for the ten aircraft were closed with three leasing companies, namely: GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS, 5 units), BOC Aviation (3 units) and Aviation Capital Group (ACG, 2 units).

Copa Holdings 3Q profits rises by 48%

Copa Holdings, S.A. (Panama City), parent company of Copa Airlines (Panama) and Copa Airlines Colombia, reported net income of $63.9 million for the third quarter, or earnings per share (EPS) of $1.45. Excluding special items, Copa Holdings would have reported an adjusted net income of $54.9 million, or $1.25 per share, compared to an adjusted net income of $52.5 million or $1.20 per share for 3Q09.

Avianca-TACA and Copa Airlines to join the Star Alliance

Avianca (Bogota, TACA (San Salvador) and Copa Airlines (Panama City) have been accepted to join the Star Alliance.

Copa Airlines to fly to St. Maarten

Copa Airlines (Panama City) announced new service direct from Panama City to the Caribbean island of St. Maarten (St. Martin), beginning on December 18, 2010.

The new flight will depart Panama City (PTY) on Tuesdays and Saturdays at 12:22 p.m. (1222), arriving in St. Maarten (SXM) at 4:17 p.m. (1617). The return flight will depart on the same days at 5:30 p.m. (1730), arriving in Panama City at 7:44 p.m. (1944).

Copa Holdings reports a 2Q net profit of $18.6 million

Copa Holdings, S.A. (Panama City), parent company of Copa Airlines (Panama City) and AeroRepublica (Bogota), announced financial results for the second quarter of 2010 (2Q10).

Copa Holdings reported net income of US$18.6 million for 2Q10, or earnings per share (EPS) of US$0.42. Excluding special items, Copa Holdings would have reported an adjusted net income of $26.3 million, or $0.60 per share, compared to an adjusted net income of US$28.1 million or US$0.64 per share for 2Q09.

Copa Holdings reports 1Q net income of $36.7 million

Copa Holdings, S.A. (Panama City), parent company of Copa Airlines and AeroRepublica, reported net income of $36.7 million (US) for the first quarter, or diluted earnings per share (EPS) of $0.84. Excluding special items, which for 1Q10 included a $19.8 millionย charge related to the devaluation of the Venezuelan currency and a $0.4 millionย non-cash charge associated with the mark-to-market of fuel hedge contracts, Copa Holdings would have reported an adjusted net income ofย $56.9 million, or $1.29ย per share, compared to an adjusted net income of $55.5 millionย or $1.26ย per share for 1Q09.
