Enugu Air Embraer 170 overruns the runway at Benin Airport in Nigeria

On July 23, 2026, an Enugu Air Embraer E170LR, operating as Flight 4264, was involved in a serious runway excursion upon landing at Benin Airport in Edo State, Nigeria.

The aircraft, bearing Nigerian registration 5N-ENR, was performing a domestic passenger flight from Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos to Benin City. At approximately 3:10 PM local time, amid heavy downpours and adverse weather conditions, the twin-jet landed on Runway 05. The aircraft failed to stop within the remaining pavement distance, overrunning the end of the runway and coming to rest on rough ground beyond the threshold.

Images and preliminary assessments showed that the E170LR sustained substantial damage, resting on the underside of its fuselage after part of the landing gear structure broke away during the excursion.

All 63 passengers and 5 crew members on board safely disembarked the airframe without any recorded injuries or casualties. The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) deployed a Go Team to secure the site and initiate a formal investigation into the factors surrounding the accident, including weather conditions, touchdown point, and runway surface friction.
