Germania Flug of Switzerland becomes Chair Airlines

Germania Flug of Switzerland has announced it has become Chair Airlines (stylized as “chair”). The Germania brand has been tarnished since the demise of the original Germania of Germany.

The company describes its new brand:

Chair Airlines โ€“ Switzerlandโ€™s Freshest Airline

A company needs a strong foundation. A chair has stable legsโ€š a load-bearing seatโ€š and a strong backrest to support you โ€“ and as an airlineโ€š we offer you a place to sit backโ€š dreamโ€š and fly away. With our roots in Switzerland and our feet firmly on the groundโ€š we stay true to ourselves while still adapting to changes in market conditions. Our key characteristics are professionalism coupled with the freshness of a new airline: clear and simpleโ€š reliable and safeโ€š dynamic and flexibleโ€š friendly and attentiveโ€š honest and approachable.

Fleet and Business Areas

Chair Airlines operates a fleet of three Airbus A319 aircraft with 150 economy class seats each at Zurich Airport. The average age of the aircraft is ten years.

As a charter airlineโ€š we offer our passengers flight connections for beach holidays in warm-water destinations and short city trips. We also build bridgesโ€š connecting passengers living in Switzerland with their homeland. Chair Airlines is a reliable partner for special flights and ad-hoc charter flightsโ€š for example for sports clubsโ€š special eventsโ€š and companies.

Trusting partnerships with tour operators and travel agencies form the basis of our business concept. Furthermoreโ€š our close collaboration with tourist information offices enables us to move with the times and recognize travelersโ€™ needs.

On the Go Together

At Chair Airlinesโ€š people take center stage in everything we do โ€“ our passengersโ€š our more than 150 employeesโ€š and our partners. Our experienced pilots and professional flight attendants on board and our highly qualified administration team on the ground ensure that our passengers can enjoy safeโ€š smooth flights and make their flight experience as pleasant as possible. Chair Airlines stands for respect and fairnessโ€š and COOPERATION is a matter of huge importance to us.

Germania Flug AG, headquartered in Glattbrugg near Zurich, was founded in August 2014.

Germania Flug AG of Switzerland operates three A319s with 150 seats each.

In addition to the most popular destinations on the Mediterranean, Germania Flug AG flies to Beirut and other cities off the beaten track.

Germania Flug was not affected by the bankruptcy of its German shareholder,ย Germania, in February 2019. The Germania shares were sold to Albex Aviation, which also owns Air Prishtina.

Germania Flug continues to fly under the Germania brand.

To avoid any confusion or association with the grounded German airline, the Swiss airline is now considering a name change and has registered the name “CH Air”. No official announcement has yet been made.

Germania reacts to the Swiss court decision against its lawsuit against Hotelplan

Germania issued this statement on December 20, 2017:

On November 28, 2017, the Zurich commercial court dismissed the action filed by Germania Flug AG against Hotelplan. Germania now has filed a complaint regarding this resolution with the Swiss Federal Court in Lausanne.

In the litigation, Germania had contested Hotelplanโ€™s termination after only six months of the three-year charter agreement Hotelplan had entered into with Germania. Hotelplan alleged that Germania had operated fewer than 95% of the flights on its 2015 summer schedule with its own aircraft. Germania asserted that the termination was void because Hotelplan was not allowed to count flights which were not operated due to a lack of suitable slots towards the 95% threshold (โ€œslot restrictionโ€). According to the commercial court, the action had to be dismissed on the following grounds: โ€œEven under the assumption that a slot restriction had been agreed upon, Germania was not able to explain why no suitable slots had been obtained.โ€ In the brief subsidiary reasoning it was stated: โ€œNo slot restriction had been agreed upon.โ€

Germania does not share the commercial courtโ€™s opinion. It remains undisputed that the matter is complex and the file related to the suit is extensive. However, the strikingly brief decision shows that several facts and arguments put forward by Germania were acknowledged insufficiently by the commercial court.

Most of the considerations on which the resolution is based disregard the partiesโ€™ pleadings. Hence, key portions of the resolution are built on doubtful premises. Germania now has brought the decision before the next higher level for review and trusts that the Federal Court will take all the pleadings into consideration in its decision.

According to Wikipedia:

The airline was founded in August 2014 in cooperation with the German airline Germania,[4] who also lend its corporate design, and Swiss leisure company Hotelplan with the aim to operate leisure charter flights using the brand Holiday Jet.ย Following the inaugural flight on March 26, 2015, for the summer 2015 and winter 2015/2016, Germania Flug operated from Zรผrich to 17 leisure destinations in Europeย and North Africa.

However, from November 2015 Germania Flug stopped its collaboration with HolidayJet and operates soley under its own brand name since.
