BRA – Braathens Regional Airlines to phase out its Avros with ATR turboprops

SE-DSO retired on December 19, 2018 - All Avro jets to be retired by 2020

BRA – Braathens Regional Airlines is facing a difficult decision concerning its declining Avro (BAe)  jet fleet.

BRA is a virtual brand. The Avro aircraft are actually operated by Braathens Regional Airways AB (formerly Golden Air and Braathens Regional), which is a Norwegian-owned Swedish airline with its head office in Trollhättan.

Due to declining passengers in the Swedish domestic market, the company has announced to its employees, it will phase out its two Avro RJ85s and eight Avro RJ100s by 2020. The jets will be replaced with additional and more fuel-efficient ATR turboprops. The Avro jets have become too expensive to operate.

At least 363 employees will lose their jobs with the transition according to Dagens Industri.
