Pilots at Lufthansa agree to end strike

Lufthansa’s (Frankfurt) high-paid German pilots took to the picket lines at midnight on Monday (February 22), plunging the airline into its longest ever strike and forcing the carrier to cancel hundreds of flights. The strike was due to last four days but today the pilots agreed to end their strike and go back to negotiations.

Approximately 4,000 pilots voted for the strike at Lufthansa on concerns the company could try to cut staff costs by shifting jobs to foreign subsidiaries such as Austrian Airlines (Vienna) or Lufthansa Italia (Milan-Malpensa), where wages are lower.
