Spirit Airlines survives the busiest day with a computer failure

Spirit Airlines Airbus A320-232 N602NK (msn 4264) DCA (Brian McDonough), originally uploaded by Airliners Gallery.

Spirit Airlines (Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood) yesterday survived the busiest travel day of the year after its reservations computer system failed and passengers had to be booked in manually. The system came back on line in the afternoon.

In other news, Spirit is building up a larger presence at Las Vegas. On November 11 Spirit started new daily nonstop service between Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport and Las Vegas.

Spirit has also announced upcoming new one-stop same aircraft service from Las Vegas to Atlantic City starting on May 5, 2011.

In addition, Spirit recently announced it will begin twice daily nonstop service between Las Vegas and Dallas/Fort Worth on May 5, 2011.
