Alaska Airlines adds new service from the Bay Area to Hawaii

Alaska Airlines (Seattle/Tacoma) inaugurates nonstop service between San Jose, CA, and Lihue, on the Hawaiian island of Kauai, on Sunday, March 27, and between Oakland, CA, and Lihue beginning March 28. The San Jose flights will operate three times weekly and the Oakland flights will operate four times weekly.

The new service complements the airline’s existing Hawaii flights from San Jose and Oakland to Kahului, Maui, and Kona, on the Big Island of Hawaii.

With the new service, Alaska Airlines now offers 105 weekly round-trip flights from the U.S. mainland and state of Alaska to Hawaii.

In other news, on March 26 Alaska Airlines reported a central computer system used to prepare flight plans and other information went down in the morning and is causing multiple departure delays and some cancellations. Many morning flights were delayed by two hours or more and other delays are expected throughout Alaska Airlines’ route network until the system is restored.
