Tornado strikes STL, airport closed indefinitely as damage is being accessed

Lambert-St. Louis International Airport (IATA: STL, ICAO: KSTL, FAA LID: STL) (St. Louis) was struck by an apparent tornado last night with reports of some aircraft parked at the terminal being partially lifted up by the swirling winds. The terminal sustained major damage and teams are now accessing the damage before operations can be restored.

According to Reuters, winds at STL were over 100 mph/160 kph. Airport Director Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge stated an American Airlines aircraft on the ground was damaged.
