Allegiant to fly to Honolulu from Las Vegas and Fresno, announces a new base at Punta Gorda

Allegiant Air (Las Vegas) has finally announced the launch dates of its new Hawaii service. The ultra low-fare carrier will launch nonstop Las Vegas-Honolulu flights on June 29 followed by nonstop Fresno-Honolulu service on the following day. These long-range flights will be operated under ETOPS rules using their Boeing 757-200s. Introductory fares will begin at $174 including taxes and fees. This announcement is likely to start a fare war to Hawaii. Allegiant charges for all extras.

The company also announced the establishment of a new base of operations at Punta Gorda Airport (PGD) as of June 27, 2012. The company will open the base with one 150 seat, MD-80 series jet aircraft at the Florida airport and create local jobs for flight attendants and airport service personnel. In conjunction with the base, Allegiant will begin new, nonstop air service to Southwest Florida from four markets (Fort Wayne, Niagara Falls, Peoria, South Bend) starting on June 27. Direct Air previously served the Punta Gorda market.
