Finnair becomes the first airline to link Europe with Chongqing, China

Finnair (Helsinki) today (May 9) opens a new route to Chongqing, China. The new flights will be operated four times a week throughout the year with Airbus A340-300s. Finnair will be the first airline to operate nonstop flights between Europe and Chongqing.

Chongqing is situated on the edge of the Tibetan plateau. Greater Chongqing is one of China’s four province-level municipalities (the other three are Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin), and the only one located in inland China. With a total population of 32 million residing in an area about the size of Austria, Chongqing’s urban population is expected to double over the next five years.
