Delta to start phasing out its Boeing 747-400s

Even without an official announcement, this has been known for a near-solid year. Why: Delta has been cutting its 744 pilot staff for over a year, even offering incentives to ‘retire early’ rather than retaining, for some pilots. Sad? Not really. It had to happen. The very senior guys time-out or get a bonus to retire early and the younger ones are already moving to other airplanes. Evolution?
