Montenegro Airlines operated its last flight on Christmas Day, December 25, due to lack of support from the government.
The last flight was flight YM 103 from Belgrade to Podgorica with Embraer 195 registered as 4O-AOB. The flight was met with a farewell water cannon salute.
In a sentimental farewell gesture, the pilots on the company’s last flight to Belgrade on Friday were given permission by air controllers to make a heart-shape course in the skies.
The airline issued this statement (translated):
Dear passengers. Due to the new circumstances concerning the decision of the Montenegro government that it will not support the existence of a national airline, which is extremely negatively affecting the safety of the continuation of air traffic, we estimated that it is the level of risk that Montenegro Airlines cannot accept it. We would like to inform you that since December 26, 2020., we are suspending planned traffic completely.
The safety of passengers, crews and aircraft is the company’s priority from the establishment to today. Thank you to all our travelers for the years of trust, travel and friendship, and we apologize in advance to everyone who will have made a decision to work with MA, the next days and weeks will cause problems in organizing the journey they are or are planning to start.
