Ethiopian Airlines targets February 1, 2022 for the return of Boeing 737 MAX service

Ethiopian Airlines has issued this statement:

Ethiopian Airlines in the Final Stage to Return the Boeing 737 MAX Fleet to Service with the first flight expected on February 1, 2022.

Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Tewolde GebreMariam (above) said “Safety is our top most priority at Ethiopian Airlines and it guides every decision we make and all actions we take. It is in line with this guiding principle that we are now returning the B737 MAX to service not only after the recertification by the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration), EASA of Europe, Transport Canada, CAAC, ECAA and other regulatory bodies but also after the return to service by more than 34 airlines around the world. In line with our initially stated commitment to become among the last airlines to return the B737 MAX, we have taken enough time to monitor the design modification work and the more than 20 months of rigorous recertification process and we have ensured that our pilots, engineers, aircraft technicians, cabin crew are confident on the safety of the fleet. The airplane model has accumulated more than 275,000 commercial flights since the resumption of B737 MAX operation a year ago.

Ethiopian Airlines has put in place a rigorous and comprehensive processes to ensure that every plane in the sky is safe. In the next one month, we will update the traveling public on further details and progresses.

We always prioritize customers’ safety and I am confident that our customers will enjoy onboard safety and comfort that we have been known for.”

Boeing accepts liability for Ethiopian Airlines 737 MAX crash

“Boeing agreed on Wednesday to acknowledge liability for compensatory damages in lawsuits filed by families of the 157 people killed in the 2019 Ethiopian Airlines 737 Max crash, according to a filing in US District Court in Chicago.”

Ethiopian Airlines enters into an interline agreement with South Africa’s Airlink

Ethiopian Airlines (ET) is delighted to announce that it has signed an interline agreement with Airlink (4Z), an airline based in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Ethiopian has entered into an interline agreement with Airlink to allow passengers to enjoy seamless travel with a single ticket and lower fare tickets between points within the carriers’ synergized networks. With the interline agreements between the two carriers, passengers can book through their itineraries on both airlines easily. The partnership attracts more customers providing ease of connectivity to their destinations served by both Ethiopian and Airlink.

Ethiopian Airlines has been implementing various partnership agreements with African and global carriers to further expand its accessibility to its customers. The partnership with Artlink in particular will increase seamless connectivity options for customers in the regions of South Africa with the vast network of Ethiopian Airlines in the continent and beyond. Ethiopian Airlines connectivity options are crucial in fulfilling the increasing demand of our customers. Ethiopian and Airlink customers will handle each other’s travelers check in and baggage for all their flights with the airlines. Airlink provides services between smaller, under-served towns and larger hub airports. Hence, through the interline agreement signed with Ethiopian, customers from south Africa will benefit from more than 60 African destination of Ethiopian.

Ethiopian Airlines’ management has reached a settlement with Boeing and said it expects to resume flying the jet again by January according to The Seattle Times. The airline is now convinced the aircraft type is safe.

Ethiopian Airlines Group has transported 50 million doses of vaccine to more than 28 countries

Ethiopian Airlines Group has transported 50 million doses of vaccine to more than 28 countries across the globe and became the only African carrier to reach such a milestone playing crucial role during this difficult time. Ethiopian Cargo and Logistics Services, Africa’s largest cargo service provider, has successfully distributed the vaccines to different countries with its technologically equipped facility called ‘Pharma Wing’.

Ethiopian was one of the few airlines that didn’t quit operation despite boarder closures and travel restrictions by countries due to the pandemic. As a result, the airline reunited more than 63 thousand stranded citizens of different countries with their families and loved ones.

According to the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) World Air Transport Statistics report, Ethiopian Airlines has been ranked among the top 25 leading global cargo transporters. In addition, it has been ranked 21st in scheduled Cargo Tonne Kilometers (CTKs) and 19th by scheduled freight tons carried.

Ethiopian Airlines and Boeing have signed a strategic MOU to position Ethiopia as Africa’s Aviation Hub

Ethiopian Airlines Group and the Boeing company have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on positioning Ethiopia as an aviation hub for Africa. Building on the two parties’ seventy years of shared history in aviation, the MOU aims at positioning Ethiopia as Africa’s aviation hub – “Ethiopia for Africa”.

Boeing has recognized Ethiopian as a global aviation leader in the continent. The MOU is indicative of Boeing and Ethiopian Airlines interest to establish a mutually beneficial world class aviation partnership.

To realize their shared vision, Ethiopian and Boeing have agreed to work in partnership in four areas of strategic collaboration namely: Industrial Development, Advanced Aviation Training, Educational Partnership, and Leadership Development in a span of three years. To this effect, joint multidisciplinary teams have been established to implement the strategic partnership and important milestones have already been registered.

Ethiopian and Boeing desire Ethiopian Aviation Academy to be recognized as a global standard for aviation training.
